Earlier, Congress leaders gathered at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s residence in Bengaluru for a crucial breakfast meeting. Congress MLA Basavaraj Rayareddy also indicated that party leaders would abide by whatever decision the high command takes, saying, “Whatever the party decides, we will follow it.”
The transition follows marathon meetings involving Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, KC Venugopal, Randeep Surjewala, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar. A prominent astrologer closely associated with Karnataka Congress president D K Shivakumar has predicted that the senior leader will hold the state’s top post for an extended period. The remarks come amid strong speculation that Shivakumar will soon be chosen as leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Karnataka.
Astrologer Dwarakanath Guruji said he had suggested three possible dates for Shivakumar, the Kanakapura MLA, to assume office as chief minister — 31 May, 5 June and 6 June. He also predicted that Shivakumar would return to power after the 2028 Assembly elections.

'Change is always good': Congress leader Veerappa Moily on Karnataka cabinet reshuffle
Congress leader M Veerappa Moily on Friday backed changes in the Karnataka Cabinet, saying a reshuffle would help the party tackle anti-incumbency and bring opportunities for aspiring legislators. Speaking to ANI, Moily said introducing “new faces” into the ministry would strengthen the government and improve public perception. The letter stated that Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President DK Shivakumar, AICC General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, Leader of the House in the Legislative Council NS Boseraju and all working presidents of the party will be present at the meeting.
"Therefore, I have been directed by the Leader of the Legislature Party to request your mandatory presence and participation in this meeting without fail," the letter said.

Karnataka governor accepts Siddaramaiah's resignation
Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Friday accepted the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

“In exercise of the powers conferred on me under Article 164(1) of the constitution of India, I, Thaawarchand Gehlot, Governor of Karnataka, have accepted the resignation of Shri. Siddaramaiah, Chief Minister of Karnataka and dissolved the Council of Ministers headed by him with immediate effect,” the Governor said in the notification.
He said, Siddaramaiah shall continue to function as CM till alternative arrangements are made.
Both Siddaramaiah and his deputy D K Shivakumar, who is most likely to succeed him, are in Delhi to meet the Congress high command and discuss the transition of power, and formation of the new cabinet.

An emotional Siddaramaiah on Thursday said he was stepping down as Karnataka chief minister saying that he had “kept his word” by delivering on the Congress party’s promises. Speaking after submitting his resignation at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru, he said his government had fulfilled the majority of its commitments despite sustained criticism from the Opposition.
Siddaramaiah said that of the 162 promises made in 2018, 158 had been implemented. Referring to the 2023 Assembly elections, he noted that the Congress had made 550 promises and had already fulfilled around 300 of them. He also highlighted that the government implemented all five of its flagship guarantee schemes within the first year, spending nearly Rs 1.4 lakh crore.
“We never shied away from fulfilling our promises. That has satisfied both me and my party,” he said, while also referring to allegations levelled against him by the Opposition, including criticism from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah resigned from his post on Thursday, paving the way for deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar to take over after months of speculation over a leadership change in the Congress government.
In his remarks, Siddaramaiah thanked Congress workers, legislators and MPs for their support since 2006. He said his cabinet colleagues had extended “full cooperation and affection” during both his tenures as Chief Minister, from 2013 to 2018 and again from 2023 onwards. Reflecting on his political journey, he said he came from a rural background and never imagined becoming an MLA, Leader of the Opposition or Chief Minister. He added that nobody in his family had been involved in politics and described his rise as unexpected.
Siddaramaiah also said he had always been guided by the teachings of Buddha, Basavanna, B R Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi.

Siddaramaiah said it was now the Governor’s responsibility to invite the next Chief Minister to form the government. He pointed out that the Congress has the support of 136 MLAs, along with backing from two Independent legislators, giving the party a clear majority in the Assembly.
Referring to the transition, he said it would be constitutionally appropriate for the next Chief Minister to take charge. Drawing a comparison with Kannada icon Rajkumar, who was often referred to as the “people’s god”, Siddaramaiah said that, as a politician, he regarded the Constitution as his religion and the voters as his gods.
He also expressed gratitude to the Congress leadership for the opportunities he had received during his political career. “I have had the privilege of serving twice as Chief Minister and twice as Leader of the Opposition. For this opportunity, I thank Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge,” he said.

The Congress leadership is simultaneously trying to avoid a “Rajasthan-like crisis” by managing the transition carefully and preventing factional unrest. While Shivakumar’s supporters are demanding that the reported power-sharing agreement be honoured, Siddaramaiah loyalists continue to highlight his support among MLAs and his political significance as a prominent OBC leader. The Congress has reportedly offered Siddaramaiah a Rajya Sabha berth and a national role to ensure a smoother transition.
The unfolding leadership change has also intensified attacks from the BJP, with opposition leaders accusing the Congress government of administrative paralysis due to the prolonged “chair fight” between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar. The coming days are expected to determine whether the Congress can manage the transition peacefully or whether internal tensions will escalate further.
