CHENNAI: Challenging the TN government''s move to freeze its 183 accounts, the Kanchi mutt on Monday moved the Madras HC seeking a direction from it to restrain the government from interfering with the mutt''s administration.
The petition, filed by S Mahadevan, the new manager of ''Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peethadhipati Jagadguru Sri Sankaracharya Swamigal,'' is likely to come up for hearing on Tuesday.

The petition said the "latest salvo fired by the special investigation team (SIT)" has made it difficult for the mutt to perform its duties. The ''salvo'' was in the form of a series of communications sent to banks in which the mutt has its accounts.
Seeking an interim injunction, the mutt said a ''great prejudice'' will be caused if the government is not restrained from interfering with the bank accounts and the mutt administration. The mutt''s accounts represent the endowments created by devotees for religious functions.
