Groundbreaking addition to metropolitan network

PM Modi on Wednesday inaugurated India's first underwater metro services, an engineering marvel in itself. This underwater marvel, situated beneath the Hooghly River that divides Kolkata and Howrah, boasts the country's deepest metro station, the Howrah Metro station.

Trial run completed in April 2023

A significant milestone for the Kolkata Metro, navigating a tunnel 32 meters below the water level. The concept was initially proposed by the British in 1921, according to researchers. Built at a cost of Rs 4,965 crore, it is a testament to engineering ingenuity and a historic advancement in India's metro infrastructure.

PM Modi unveils multiple metro projects

The PM inaugurated the Duhai-Modinagar (North) section of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor, Pune Metro's Ruby Hall Clinic-Ramwadi stretch, Kochi Metro's SN Junction to Tripunithura section and Agra Metro's Taj East Gate-Mankameshwar section. The PM also laid the foundation stone for the extension of the Pune Metro.

PM Modi received a warm welcome from a crowd of supporters in Kolkata, with loud cheers of 'Modi Modi' and 'Jai Shri Ram.' PM Modi was accompanied by BJP president Sukanta Majumdar and LoP Suvendu Adhikari.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also interacted with metro staff as he travelled in India's first underwater metro train along with state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar and WB LoP and BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari.

Projects designed to ease road traffic

Each of these projects is designed to significantly ease road traffic congestion and provide seamless, efficient, and comfortable connectivity for the public. The newly inaugurated section of the Agra Metro is poised to enhance access to the city's historical and tourist sites, while the RRTS corridor aims to stimulate economic activity within the National Capital Region (NCR).
