Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) on Saturday said that the first earth-bound firing to raise the Aditya-L1 orbit is scheduled for September 3 around 11.45am. "Aditya-L1 started generating the power. The solar panels are deployed. The first EarthBound firing to raise the orbit is scheduled for September 3 around 11:45 hours," said Isro. The PSLV-C57.1 rocket carrying the Aditya-L1 orbiter lifted off successfully from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh at 11.50am today. "The third stage of the separation of PSLV carrying the Aditya-L1 orbiter has been completed," as per Isro. (ANI)

As the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) successfully launched Aditya-L1, the country's maiden solar mission, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said they were indebted to hard-working scientists at the country's space agency. In a post on the social media platform, X, formerly known as Twitter, he said: "Lead me from darkness to light We are indebted and grateful to our scientists, space engineers, researchers and our hard-working personnel at @ISRO for the successful launch of #AdityaL1 - Solar Observation Mission. Together, we celebrate their success and honour them with our gratitude"

With the successful launch of India's ambitious solar mission Aditya-L1, former Isro chief professor UR Rao's dream and contribution towards its realisation at the initial stages was fondly remembered. According to Isro, professor Rao was particularly excited about the Aditya mission and he ensured that it went through a thorough revamp of its mission objectives including its orbital parameters to make the expedition more meaningful and contemporary. Isro's solar mission Aditya-L1, which was launched on Saturday will demonstrate the extent of the country’s capabilities and provide the world with the next level of solar data, stated Rukmini Jagirdar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Astronomy at Osmania University. The professor said that with the launch of Aditya-L1, India is going to make a milestone in space exploration. "This will show how far ISRO can go and prove its capability. This is the first time India is going to send a satellite to monitor the Sun inspace. After many satellites from the US, Europe, and Japan, very few countries have explored the Sun," Jagirdar said while talking to ANI.

Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday congratulated the Indian Space and Research Organisation (Isro) on the successful launch of India's first solar mission, Aditya-L1. Taking to 'X' (formerly known as Twitter), CM Dhami said, "New flight of strong India!" Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to all the scientists and countrymen on the successful launch of India's Sun Mission".

The spacecraft will now begin a four-month journey when it will perform orbital maneuvers by using its Liquid Apogee Motor (LAM) to reach the Sun-Earth Lagrange point L1 -- which is 1.5 million km from the Earth -- in a halo orbit.

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar on Saturday congratulated the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on the successful launch of India’s first solar mission, Aditya -L1, calling it another feather in the space agency’s cap. “Congratulations on the successful launch of India’s first Solar Mission, Aditya -L1. This is yet another feather in @isro’s cap. Their achievements continue to inspire the nation and raise our global profile,” EAM Jaishankar posted on his official handle on 'X’, formerly Twitter, on Saturday.

Aditya L1 satellite was launched atop PSLV-C57, which is the 59th flight of PSLV and 25th mission using PSLV-XL configuration. Aditya-L1 will stay on Earth-bound orbits for 16 days, during which it will undergo 5 manoeuvres to gain the necessary velocity for its journey.

"Time and again our scientists have proved their might and brilliance. The nation is proud and delighted over the successful launch of Aditya L1, India's first solar mission. Kudos to the team of Isro for this unparalleled accomplishment. It is a giant stride towards fulfilling PM Narendra Modi's vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat in the space sector, during the Amrit Kaal," he wrote on Twitter.

The Aditya L1 mission is expected to last five years. The satellite will spend its whole mission life orbiting around L1 in an irregularly shaped orbit in a plane roughly perpendicular to the line joining the Earth and the Sun.

In simpler words, L1 is a location in space where the gravitational forces of two celestial bodies, the Sun and Earth in this case, are in equilibrium. This means that an object, Aditya L1 satellite in this case, placed there will remain relatively stable with respect to both celestial bodies.

Aditya-L1 is a satellite dedicated to the comprehensive study of the Sun. It has seven distinct payloads — five by Isro and two by academic institutions in collaboration with Isro — developed indigenously..

The PSLV-XL variant rocket carries the 1,480.7 kg Aditya-L1 spacecraft as its sole passenger that will study the solar activities. The 44.4 metre tall PSLV-C57 rocket with a lift off mass of 321 ton carrying Aditya-L1 -- named after the Sun God in Hindu mythology -- blasted off from the second launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) here at 11.50 a.m.

The major objectives of the mission include understanding the Coronal Heating and Solar Wind Acceleration, the initiation of Coronal Mass Ejection, and near-earth space weather and the solar wind distribution.

Former Indian Space Research Organisation chairman G Madhavan Nair on Saturday said data from Aditya-L1, the country's first solar mission, will help explain various celestial phenomena taking place in the atmosphere and aid climate change studies. Speaking to ANI ahead of the launch at 11.50 am on Saturday, Nair said, "This mission is very important. Aditya L-1 will be placed around Lagrangian Point 1, where the gravitational force of Earth and the Sun is virtually nullified, and with minimum fuel, we can park the spacecraft there. It will also enable 24/7 observation of the Sun. Seven payloads or instruments have been included on board the spacecraft." "The data from this mission will help explain various phenomena taking place in the atmosphere and aid climate change studies," he added.

First stage of the rocket has separated, and second stage ignited. The Heat shield has also separated from the rocket.

ISRO Aditya-L1, India’s first solar observatory mission, successfully lifted off from Sriharikota at 11.50am.

Unlike a regular PSLV launch profile, which places the spacecraft into an orbit roughly under 25 minutes from lift-off, Aditya’s separation is projected to happen 63 minutes after the rocket blasts off from the second launch pad in Sriharikota. This will be one of the longest PSLV missions ever undertaken. The February 2021 mission that put Brazil’s Amazonia satellite and 18 others into orbits took more than 1-hour-55-minutes, while the February 2016 mission that put eight satellites into orbits took 2-hours-and-15 minutes. Both involved multiple satellites and orbits, unlike Aditya-L1.
