7 States in India that are the top producers of Mangoes

India holds the title of being the largest producer of mangoes in the world, and makes for nearly 50% of the global mango supply with its huge agricultural landscape and suitable climates. Over the years our country has successfully cultivated various mango varieties that have become staples in global markets. India is home to mangoes that are juicy and refreshing in their flavor and texture. Be it the famous Alphonso, or the the sweet and tangy Dasheri, people are truly in for a treat as soon as they pull a wholesome bite out of the ‘King of fruits’.


The tropical and subtropical climates across India provide ideal growing conditions for this fruit, which not only plays an integral role in the fruit’s consumption in the country, but also in international trade. The mango season in India typically spans from March to July, amid which various regions harvest their crops at different times across these months, ensuring a steady supply throughout the year. Apart from being agriculturally important to the Indian economy, mango is also traditionally significant as it is used in festivals and regional dishes. Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh is the largest mango producer in India, with an estimated production of around 2.5 million metric tons annually, which makes it around 25% of the country’s total mango output. The state's agricultural bounty, along with suitable climatic conditions like hot and humid summers, and well-distributed rainfall, have made it an ideal place for mango production. Uttar Pradesh specializes in such popular varieties as Dasheri, Langra, and Chausa, which are highly valued because of their unique tastes and texture. The three are not just favorite ones back home in India, but are also exported worldwide, with Uttar Pradesh serving as one of India's topmost states contributing to the mango industry in India.

Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh follows Uttar Pradesh as a major contributor to India’s mango production. Though specific figures aren't yet available, the state is estimated to produce over 1.2 million metric tons of mangoes annually, making up approximately 22% of the national yield. Andhra Pradesh also contributes significantly to mango processing, particularly with varieties like Alphonso, Safeda, and Totapuri. The state’s fertile coastal regions has many processing units that produce mango pulp, pickles, and juices, which are not only consumed domestically, but also exported worldwide.

Karnataka, home to the highly prized Alphonso mango, contributes over 1 million metric tons of mangoes annually, accounting for approximately 10% of India's total production. The state is particularly famous for its Alphonso mangoes, known for their rich flavor, smooth texture, and golden color. These mangoes are grown in the warm, humid regions of Karnataka and are eagerly awaited each year. The Alphonso mango has gained a lot of international fame , and Karnataka's orchards serve as a major source for both domestic consumption and export markets.
