5 tiny and adorable dog breeds that shed less

Small dogs steal hearts with their adorable personalities packed into tiny packages, and suit well into apartments, laps, and endless cuddles.

But even though pet dogs make a cherished part of the family, grooming them and keeping up with their health is essential.

Some dogs shed so much of their fur that it sticks to various home accessories, be it sofas, bedsheets, and sometimes also enters kitchens.

Dogs that shed less can be a great choice for people who want a cleaner home and easier grooming routines. These dogs usually leave less hair, making them popular among families and apartment owners. While no dog is completely shed-free, some have coats that naturally release less fur and require regular brushing instead.

Here are some dog breeds that shed less

2/6

Poodle

Poodles come in toy sizes, with curly, low-shed coats that stay clean longer, and are ideal for allergy-stricken people. Super smart, they ace tricks and obedience, loving games like fetching balls or those that require flexibility.

They're lively and chill, needing 30-min daily walks. Groom every 4-6 weeks to avoid clumps and ensure a glossy finish.

3/6

Shih Tzu

Shih Tzus, popularly known as the "little lions," have silky coats that need daily brushing or a puppy cut for ease. Outgoing and affectionate, they adore laps and short strolls. Prone to eye issues, so cleaning their eyes is required daily.

4/6

Maltese

Malteses are covered with snowy white silky coats that shed little but tangles easy, so it is important to brush them daily and trim their paws. Live 12-15 years on quality food. These fluffy clouds melt hearts and a touch of aristocracy without the attitude.

5/6

Dachshund

Dachshunds, also known as the "wiener dogs," stand 8-9 inches tall, with smooth or wire coats, and are low-maintenance. Bold hunters at heart, they dig burrows and chase toys endlessly.

6/6

Chihuahua

Smooth coat Chihuahuas may be tiny, but they have attractive personalities. They are loving, loyal, and often form a very close bond with one person while still being friendly with family members. Their short, smooth coat is easy to care for and does not need much grooming. These little dogs do not need a lot of exercise, and indoor play is usually enough to keep them happy. They are naturally alert and curious, making them great companions around the house. Their small size also makes them well‑suited for apartment living, as long as they get attention, warmth, and gentle handling.
