Tollywood stars who played dual roles on-screen

What's better than watching your favourite star on the big screen? Seeing them taking on dual roles in a flick definitely tops the list and promises double the action, fun and entertainment. While many of these films require a good amount of visual effects, they do not disappoint! We’ve compiled a list of actors who have played dual roles on-screen.
2/9

Nagarjuna in ‘Hello Brother’

Akkineni Nagarjuna took up the task to play twins in ‘Hello Brother’. This rom-com saw his characters courting a lot of confusion, especially in their love lives. Cinematographer S Gopal Reddy's trick shots in the film further enhanced the overall experience. Nagarjuna manages to portray the two roles – Deva and Ravi Varma with tact and make their characters rather entertaining. There was plenty to love about this film, along with its stellar performances and music by Raj-Koti.
3/9

Chiranjeevi in ‘Rowdy Alludu’

Mega Star Chiranjeevi played the characters Kalyan and Johnny in ‘Rowdy Alludu’. The film begins with the murder of his girlfriend’s father J. V. Somayajulu, who is has been his trusted employee for years. It seems like an open and shut case when witnesses place Kalyan at the scene of the crime. Things take an interesting turn when Johnny enters the scene. Chiru’s performance in this 1991 film is often used as an example of actors who aced their dual act. His characters in the film are poles apart, but Chiru made it seem like child's play.
4/9

Mohan Babu in ‘Pedarayudu’

Veteran actor Mohan Babu played a dual role in ‘Pedarayudu’, which also featured Tamil superstar Rajinikanth in a key role. The film sees him take on two roles in the tale about a village head and his beloved son. While Mohan Babu has had countless award-winning performances, his dual role in this Ravi Raja Pinisetty directorial earned him a Filmfare award for Best Actor.
5/9

Ravi Teja in ‘Vikramarkudu’

Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja's performance in ‘Vikramarkudu’, as Athili Sathi Babu and DCP Vikram Singh Rathod earned him praises from all quarters. The actor brings a unique sense of humour to Athili's role and his portrayal as Vikram Rathod was also widely lauded by many critics. There’s no denying that Ravi Teja's double act was absolutely stunning.
6/9

Venkatesh in ‘Suryavamsam’

In the Bhimaneni Srinivasa Rao directorial, Victory Venkatesh takes on the roles of father and son - Harischandra Prasad and Bhanu Prasad. The audience appreciated the subtle differences in Venky's performances in each role, particularly in the interactions between the two characters. His distinctive turns as father and son make for some hilarious moments and serve as the perfect platform for Venky's talents as an actor.
7/9

Balakrishna in ‘Chennakesava Reddy’

Director VV Vinayak wrote his commercial entertainer ‘Chennakesava Reddy’, keeping in mind the characters of father and son namely Chennakesava Reddy and Bharat. Balakrishna took a drastic makeover to play the parts. His nuanced performances earned praise across the board, but the film received mixed reviews. Shriya Saran played the leading lady opposite Balayya for the first time in this flick.
8/9

Jr NTR in ‘Adhurs’

Young Tiger Jr NTR’s performance as Chari and Narasimha is perhaps the most seamless portrayal of twins we’ve ever seen. The actor’s performance in this dual role is impressive as he demonstrates his control over both characters. The movie rests on Jr NTR’s shoulders and he proves that he can carry it off with ease. The actor jumps between the opposite personas with ease. This film proved to be the third hit film in a row for VV Vinayak and Jr NTR after ‘Aadi’ and ‘Samba’.
9/9

Nani in 'Gentleman'

Playing dual roles in his films has become a trademark for Natural Star Nani. He’s taken on dual characters in three of his films, including ‘Janda Pai Kapiraju’, ‘Gentleman’ and ‘Krishnarjuna Yudham’. When it comes to ‘Gentleman’, Nani stars in this romantic mystery thriller that offers a superb twist. He plays Gautham and Jayaram Mullapudi – two men who look exactly alike. He shines in the dual role which marked a comeback hit for director Mohan Krishna Indraganti.
