Bonafide hit Telugu films in the first half of 2018!

The first half of 2018 has been fruitful. We had seen some wonderful outings in the first half of 2018. Over the last six months, a number of films successfully found their way into the theatres. While some created smashing records at the box-office, some totally bombed. Here we take a look at some of the films that clicked with the audience and critics and at the same set the cash registers ringing at the box-office.

2/9

Bhaagamathie

Probably the first hit film of the year. The horror suspense thriller, which starring Anushka Shetty, Unni Mukundan, Jayaram and Asha Sarath, had a good opening. The film was released on January 26 and went to become a first super hit film in 2018. This is the story of an evil spirit, who enters into the body of an imprisoned IAS officer to take ravage against baddies. This edge-of-the-seat thriller reportedly garnered Rs 158.90 crore at the worldwide box-office.

3/9

Chalo

Naga Shaurya and Rashmika Mandanna’s film ‘Chalo’ released on February 10 and went on to become a surprise super hit of the year. The film also became one of Naga Shaurya’s biggest openers. A well-deserved hit, which did well on the basis of word-of-mouth, Venky Kudumula’s film restored one’s faith in fresh content. While the director succeeded in his first attempt, Naga Shaurya tasted success yet again after ‘Jyo Achyutananda’. The songs of the films were also chartbusters.

4/9

Tholi Prema

‘Tholi Prema’, which was released on Feb 10, was a bonafide hit. This film marks the directorial debut of Venky Atluri and opened to good numbers. The chemistry between Raashi Khanna and Varun Tej worked out well for the audience. The film made the audience laugh, cry and at the end root for the couple by the end of the film. SS Thaman’s music is one of the major assets of the film. Venky Atluri tried doing something different and has undoubtedly succeeded in the same.

5/9

Awe

The movie, which was released on Feb 16, has only been out for a few months, but we’re pretty sure that ‘Awe’ is going to become a thriller classic. The first time director Prasanth Varma has constructed a film that simply tells the story of a troubled woman, who has multiple personality disorder. Disturbed with being abused as a child, she decides to kill herself. Kajal Aggarwal slays it as a troubled woman and her performance was praised by the audience and critics alike. Prasanth Varma’s unique social psychological thriller is surely going to be a guidebook for the younger generation of filmmakers to follow.

6/9

Rangasthalam

Undoubtedly, the period revenge drama needs to be watched and praised by everyone. Directed by Sukumar, the highly anticipated movie was released on March 30, and it broke all non-Baahubali industry records. The Ram Charan starrer had high praise for the film because of his outstanding performance and Sukumar’s brilliant filmmaking. It did a record worldwide collection of Rs 210 crore, which is an industry record. The film also stars Samantha, Jagapathi Babu and Aadhi Pinisetty in key roles.

7/9

Bharat Ane Nenu

Mahesh Babu starrer ‘Bharat Ane Nenu’ is a delightful and groundbreaking film that has enchanted audience across the world. In addition to being a joyful and uplifting movie, ‘Bharat Ane Nenu’ is a message-oriented film to watch. Koratala Siva’s political thrillers are unique and visually rich. He gives the protagonist a sense of mental strength and prowess, without exploiting the plot. It works as a love story, political drama and a coming-of-age tale. The movie which released on April 20, is considered as one of the highest-grossing movies in the first half of the year.

8/9

Mahanati

‘Mahanati’ was everyone’s most anticipated biopics of 2018, and it did not disappoint. Director Nag Ashwin crafts a wholly original thing here. It fit into several genres altogether. Prior to its release, CBFC had passed ‘Mahanati without any cuts. The success of the Keerthy Suresh starrer is one of its kinds as it has won both critically and commercially. The film released on May 9 and can be rightly be called one of the well-made biopics produced this year. The film is filled with outstanding performances by Keerthy, Samantha, Vijay Devarakonda and many other actors.

9/9

Sammohanam

This is the latest film that has hit the silver screens. Director Indraganti Mohan Krishna brings on board some real talents. It’s a sensitive story of an artist who falls in love with a film star, but when the crazy stuff kicks in, this Sudheer Babu starrer becomes deeply affecting. Aditi Rao Hydari stunned everyone with her charm and chops. Released on June 15, ‘Sammohanam’ is the first straight Telugu film of the actress and she has undoubtedly nailed it.
