7 Telugu films with awe-inspiring visual effects

Technology has taken over the world like anything. And the world of cinema is no exception to this. Technology like VFX has brought in a revolution in films. Be it epic, or fantasy, or hi-octane action film, or fantastical backdrops, it is possible to create anything with VFX in films. There have been some wonderful examples of films in the Telugu industry that weighed heavily on visual effects to create best cinema experience. Here we take a look at about sic Telugu films which had some mesmerising visual effects.

2/8

2.o

Promoted as the costliest film ever-made in India, S Shankar’s latest magnum opus ‘2.o’ hit the worldwide theatres on November 29. Completely shot in 3D format, the crystal-clear graphics in the three-Dimensional view has left the viewers’ awestruck. ‘2.o’ is the finest example of modern day technology pushed to sky-high limits in Indian cinema. Major chunk of the film’s budget has gone into the visual effects part. Director Shankar utilises visual effects as a major element in ‘2.o’ to convert his dreams into life on the celluloid. All the visuals that you see in this Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar starrer are the figments of imagination from the mind of this brilliant filmmaker.

3/8

Baahubali

SS Rajamouli’s masterpiece ‘Baahubali’, which hit the screens in 2015, is one of the most beloved fantasy epic war dramas of all time. The audience lauded how the director created an illusionary world which looked so real. Written by KV Vijayendra Prasad, the visual effects in ‘Baahubali’ were generally praised as the movie’s most successful element. The movie boasts most memorable set designs that were credible enough to steal most of the scenes.

4/8

Magadheera

The Ram Charan starrer ‘Magadheera’ also had some breathtaking visual effects. The 2009 film practically pioneered the concept of reincarnation of a couple who dies before their wish to marry and reborn to fulfil their wish after 400 years. It was also arguably the most ambitious film of this era from the special effects point of view. It’s hard not to be impressed by the quality of the visual effects in ‘Magadheera’ when you consider just how many of techniques it pioneered. ‘Magadheera’s matte paints, camera tricks and basic CG-like effects impart the film an almost timeless quality that helps it stand out against modern blockbuster films.

5/8

Eega

The fantasy revenge drama was the winner of two National Awards, five Filmfare awards and other awards in special effects category, with an indigenous use of CGI work, by special effects conveners R. C. Kamalakannan and Pete Draper of Makuta VFX. This was SS Rajamouli’s ninth film about the reincarnation of a guy who has been murdered by a wealthy man, reborn as a housefly to take revenge on him. This fantasy drama featured state-of-the-art visual effects and finesse performances by the lead artistes.

6/8

Rudramadevi

‘Rudramadevi’ makes you wonder or not there’s really any reason its effects shouldn’t hold up. While the CGI-sequences involving Kakatiya Empire, forts, war and chasing scenes are typically cited as the film’s landmark CG moments, the really impressive thing about ‘Rudramadevi’s’ overall visual design is how restrained it is. Director Gunasekhar and his team made sure that they perfectly crafted their reach in terms of conveying an epic historical film world literally built with the flawless visual appeal.

7/8

Devi Puthrudu

Some films are bogged down with visual effects, others are light fare. Like said, Kodi Ramakrishna’s ‘Devi Puthrudu’, set in the hidden city of Dwarka’, is a rare union of elegant CGI work and a heavyweight emotional storyline. Anchored by Victory Venkatesh and Soundarya’s central performances created a partly visual extravaganza with those parts include Dwaraka city under water, a CGI song with the baby soul, and a shark fight itself. All are on screen for long periods of time, the submerged city of Dwarka shot alone lasts for seven minutes.

8/8

Anji

‘Anji’ is the winner of the National Film Award for Sanath in Visual Effects. The mythological fantasy thriller was producer Shyam Prasad Reddy’s follow-up film ‘Ammoru’ (1995) with a mediocre story that had spectacular visual effects. The megastar Chiranjeevi starrer is the biggest cinematic thrill ride to date. Firefly Creative Studio handled the VFX shots, including the closing battle, Lord Shiva temple, a romantic song, Maha Shivaratri festival, among others. And that’s what’s so seductive about ‘Anji’, which makes the film seems exciting and intriguing, but also tricks you into thinking that it’s real.
