Nani has been stepping up his game. The actor, who’s no longer playing it safe by picking roles like that of a Bengali writer, the titular Shyam Singha Roy or the alcoholic Dharani in Dasara, tells Hyderabad Times it’s a conscious decision.
“I want to be pushed out of my comfort zone while telling stories that resonate with the audience,” he says, adding, “And that’s what I plan on doing going forward too. ”Playing Dharani was rewarding but tough, says the actor. “The character was raw and gritty more than massy, something I’ve never done before,” he adds.
Nani is currently shooting for his landmark 30th film, directed by Shouryuv, a newcomer. Ask him about the project and he says, “It’s too early to reveal anything, but it’s such a heart-warming tale, I had to say yes. I’m having a ball on the sets. ” Post Dasara’s success, there’s also a lot of chatter about his other upcoming projects, but he clarifies that “nothing is finalised yet.”
