A real life incident inspired Kamal Haasan to write the script of 'Mahanadi', one of his cult classics

Kamal Haasan, the name is synonymous with experimental cinema.

He has undoubtedly pulled off quirk characters with ease and is one of the famous personalities of the Indian cinema, to have popularised it to the world.


He has done a number of films that won critical acclaim and international awards. 'Mhanadi' was one such film, which is widely appreciated for its content and performances of the cast, alike.


The drama film, made in the year 1994, has the subject of a father in search of his daughter, who was abducted and sold to a brothel. Not many knew that the movie's script work and story is rendered by the actor himself.


Recently, the actor, who is coming up with a couple of Tamil and Telugu films, revealed that he is inspired by a real life incident to pen the script of 'Mahanadi'.


Kamal's domestic aides have hatched a plan to kidnap one of his daughters and demand a ransom. It is when they conducted a dry run that the actor discovered the plotting. He was quoted saying, "My household help, all of them, conspired to kidnap my daughter for ransom. They even did a dry run. By accident I discovered their plan. I was angry, unnerved and ready to kill for my baby’s safety.” While we aren't sure about whom he is referring to, Shruti or Akshara, he went on to add, "Later, when I sat down to write, the script wrote itself. Maybe assisted by my fear, apprehension and paranoia."


The rest is history as you very well know. The movie went on to become a success and is still watched with enthusiasm when aired on television.
