6 iconic rain songs from Tollywood

The weather has an important part to play in the movies, especially rains. When it rains in movies, you can be sure it is not just rain and that it would definitely have some symbolic meaning or a plot twist attached to it. Like everywhere else, rains have a special place in Telugu films too. And when that rain sequence is attached to a song, it is undoubtedly icing on the cake. Over the years, this magical combination has been explored and treasured in Tollywood. As it pours outside, tune into this six iconic songs we recommend that are one of the bests from Tollywood.

2/7

Aathma Balam

The song ‘Chitapata Chinukulu’ is from the 1964 film ‘Aathma Balam’, starring Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Kongara Jaggayya and B Saroja Devi. The film has music by KV Mahadevan, who set the standards for Telugu music. He has conquered all of Tollywood earlier. He always lived up to his output and this track is definitely the highlight of the film. Everyone’s favourite Ghantasala and P Susheela lent their voices for this number and no one can give a better rendition like them.

3/7

Gang Leader

The 1991 Chiranjeevi starrer was a trendsetter in Tollywood. People were thrilled after watching their favourite star onscreen. Chiranjeevi has always the greatest influence on dance as a whole and he forged his mark on the song ‘Vaana Vaana Velluvaye’, penned by Bhuvana Chandra and crooned by SP Balasubrahmanyam and Chitra. Bollywood composer Bappi Lahiri had given blockbuster tunes for this flick. Instead of attempting to limit his tunes to particular styles, the iconic music composer allowed himself to use whichever styles best fit their particular tunes.

4/7

Bangaru Bullodu

The Nandamuri Balakrishna starrer was one of the blockbuster hits in 1993 and its songs are evergreen classics. Veturi Sundararama Murthy has penned lyrics for this song, which is a strong ballad highlighted by its affecting and melodic chorus. The film has music by Raj-Koti and in many ways, the track became the stout template for the music composers’ best work. Listen to this song, which is the music equivalent of a rainy day with the vocals of SP Balasubrahmanyam and Chitra.

5/7

Gharana Mogudu

The combination of Megastar Chiranjeevi, K Raghavendra Rao and MM Keeravani created a phenomenon hit in 1992 and everyone had enjoyed listening to the swaggering of the song ‘Kitukulu Thelisina’, penned by Bhuvanachandra and sung by KS Chitra and Mano. Chiru’s dance moves were perfect for this foot tap number and Vani Viswanath’s beauty was an added advantage. Both of them took sensuousness to the next level. It’s a definite highlight among all of Keeravani’s songs.

6/7

Vetagadu

Late legendary actor-cum-politician Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao and late yesteryear actress lady superstar Sridevi featured in this song, written by Veturi Sundararama Murthy and vocals by SP Balu and P Susheela. The Chakravarthy musical brings life to the lyrics and proved that this rendition is timeless. With its charming music, it is so empowering to see NTR and Sridevi dance to glory. The classic song has remained in the minds of people forever. It was remixed by Mani Sharma for Prabhas starrer ‘Adavi Ramudu’.

7/7

Mayalodu

The iconic rain song features Babu Mohan and late evergreen Soundarya and it was and it remains the biggest hit and most enduring rain song even today. All we can remember is the addictive energy of the duo as soon as the song is played. The song is penned by Jonnavithhula and sung by SPB and Chitra. SV Krishna Reddy had given memorable tunes for this flick, especially for this heartbreakingly beautiful song.
