Music composer Joshua Sridhar of Kadhal fame is back in action. After impressive musical albums like Kadhal, Kaloori and Veppam, he was not seen in the music scene for a few years. Now, he is working in Oru Kuppai Kadhai that has choreographer Dinesh in the lead. He also has Pagal and 54321 in his kitty. About his current projects Joshua says, Most of the films that I work on these days have a fresh team.
I compose music for the films that I get and these are not big budget movies. I try to compose tunes having the budget constraints in mind.
Joshua has been composing music in Kannada film industry, too. He says, I do one film a year in Sandalwood. Ever since I composed music for a movie in 2007, I have been getting offers from Kannada filmmakers. These projects keep me busy, he says.
Many new composers have been doing well of late. Ask him about the competition in the music industry, he says, I am a musician and I dont need a movie to prove that I am a musician. Whether I am on the streets or in a palace really doesnt matter; I can still be a musician. Being a part of films is a choice that I made when I was seven years old. Ilaiyaraaja is my biggest inspiration. In fact, I dont have a film background. Competition is something that I am not a part of. Music is spiritual to me. Since childhood, I wanted to understand life and music has helped me to realize what life actually is.
Joshua has no plans when it comes to his musical career. Ten years ago, when Kadhal was a hit, I had expectations about myself. Now, just because I didnt get enough opportunities, I have gone back to my roots. Money that I had earned had helped me in just one way setting up my own studio, which I actually dont have. There was a time when I didnt do movies because the budget was not to my liking. I would have not taken up 25-30 films in a span of five years. But I have no regrets, he says.
