SIIMA 2015 nominations: Best Debutant Female

Prayaga: Pisasu
Although it maybe unconventional for a heroine to make a debut in a horror film, Prayaga dared to be different – and it showed. Some stellar prosthetic makeup coupled with some subtle acting is what made her performance memorable.

Sonakshi Sinha: Lingaa
To be cast as the love interest of Rajinikanth is any heroine’s dream and B’town beauty Sonakshi Sinha bagged a biggie for her south debut with Lingaa. Her role as a traditional woman with a modern belief system was unconventional, and she pulled it off with aplomb.

SIIMA 2015 nominations: Best Debutant Female

Catherine Tresa: Madras
Catherine Tresa’s portrayal of a simple north Madras girl, who is not afraid to go after what she wants, struck a chord with the audience. A crackling chemistry with Karthi, especially in the Nee Naa song picturised on them was one of the highlights of the film.

SIIMA 2015 nominations: Best Debutant Female

Ishara Nair: Sathuranga Vettai
This model-turned-actress made quite an impact in Sathuranga Vettai, a black comedy heist film. Her portrayal of Banu, an economically backward girl who falls for the protagonist Gandhi Babu, a skilled conman, was endearing and received good praise from critics and audiences alike.

Malavika: Cuckoo
Malavika Nair was just in school when she shot for her debut film, Cuckoo. Her character Sudhanthirakodi is blind in the film, and Malavika went all out while preparing for her role by spending time with real blind people. Her performance has won her many an award too!
