‘Imaikkaa Nodigal’ to ‘60 Vayadu Maaniram’, films slated to release this weekend

This week will also see close to four films hitting the screens on Friday. Among the releases, the Nayanthara-starrer ‘Imaikkaa Nodigal’ has high expectations on the audience. On the other hand, films such as ‘60 Vayadu Maaniram’ and ‘Annanukku Jai’ has created decent buzz. Here’s a list of Tamil films to look forward to this weekend.

2/5

Imaikkaa Nodigal

Basking in the blockbuster success of the dark-comedy ‘Kolamaavu Kokila’, Nayanthara is all set for the release of the psychotic-thriller ‘Imaikkaa Nodigal’. Directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu of ‘Demonte Colony’ fame, the film has already created terrific buzz, thanks to its intriguing trailer. Touted to be an action-thriller, the film will see Nayanthara playing the role of a police officer, while Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap will be seen playing the prime antagonist. Apart from these two, the film also stars Atharvaa and Raashi Khanna in important roles. Made on a big-budget, ‘Imaikkaa Nodigal’ has music by Hiphop Tamizha. If the trailer response is anything to go by, ‘Imaikkaa Nodigal’ is likely to have a good opening at the box office. The film is all set for a release on August 30.

3/5

60 Vayadu Maaniram

Actors Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj and Samuthirakani are coming together for the first time in ‘60 Vayadu Maaniram’, which is the remake of the Kannada superhit ‘Godhi Banna Sadharna Mykattu’. Being produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu’s V Creations, the film is all set for a release on August 31. Interestingly, the project has music by none other than maestro Ilaiyaraaja and is expected to release later this month. Reportedly, the film revolves around a young man, who is in search of his missing father, who suffers from Alzheimer. ‘Godhi Banna Sadharna Mykattu’ won both critical and commercial success when it released in 2016.

4/5

Annanukku Jey

The trailer of ‘Annanukku Jey’ has left the audience impressed. Apparently, ‘Annanukku Jey’ is a political drama that will revolve around an aspiring politician, played by Dinesh. Produced by the National Award-winning director Vetri Maaran, ‘Annanukku Jey’ also stars actors Radha Ravi, Mahima Nambiar and Mayilsamy in pivotal roles. Distributed by Fox Films, the shoot was reportedly stalled for over two years due to unknown reasons. Interestingly, the title ‘Annanukku Jey’ is taken from a popular song from ‘Murattu Kaalai’. The film has music by Arrol Corelli of ‘Pisasu’ fame. The film is gearing up for a release on August 31 and will clash with ‘60 Vayadu Maaniram’ and ‘Vanjiyar Ulagam’.

5/5

Vanjagar Ulagam

After being in production for a long time now, ‘Vanjagar Ulagam’, which is directed by debutant Manoj Beedha, is scheduled for a release this Friday. Tipped to be a romantic thriller, the film made heads turn when its theatrical trailer was unveiled on the internet. Reports suggest that ‘Vanjagar Ulagam’, which is produced by Labyrinth Films, will be a gangster drama that has the characters from different strata of society. Apparently, the makers worked on the script for one-and-a-half-years. Starring Anisha Ambrose, Cibi Bhuvana Chandran, Guru Somasundaram, John Vijay and Vasu Vikram in important roles, ‘Vanjagar Ulagam’ has music by Sam CS of ‘Vikram Vedha’ fame.
