7 big October releases which you should not miss

This October is extra special already as both Navratri and Diwali fall in the same month, making it a super festive season. But it also means more holidays and more opportunities for films releasing at this time to attract larger crowds and it looks like Kollywood filmmakers want to take full advantage of this situation. At the moment, there are seven big movies all set to clash with each other this month. Let us take a look at which movies they are and who has the advantage of the entire lot.

Remo

After the massive success of ‘Rajinimurugan’ early in the year, Sivakarthikeyan has proven that he is superstar material. He has established as the king of comedy and romance, but with ‘Remo’ he is adding a whole new dimension to his career. In this romantic comedy, Siva will be playing a female nurse in order to land in a movie. From the first look and trailers, it is clear that the actor makes for a really pretty nurse who can also fight and make us all laugh. As a result, the popularity for ‘Remo’ is sky high and as the release date looms closer, the excitement is reaching a fever pitch.

Rekka

Maybe next in line in terms of superstars of tomorrow is Vijay Sethupathi. Since the beginning of the year, he has released five movies and all of them have been big hits, especially the last movie ‘Aandavan Kattalai’. Vijay has truly established himself as the people’s favourite as he nails any character given to him. So, he has also decided to take the road less travelled with an out and out commercial film ‘Rekka’. While the buzz for the movie is not so big, it has all possibilities of becoming a blockbuster thanks to Sethupathy’s track record.

Devi

The buzz for Prabhu Dheva’s comeback film is not as great as the two films above. However, what it doesn’t have in terms of popularity, it makes up in terms of breaking the language barrier. The Tammannaah Bhaitia, Sonu Sood and Prabhu Dheva starrer will be also released in Telugu as ‘Abhinetri’ and in Hindi as ‘Tutak Tutak Tutiya’. So the movie definitely has a wider reach in terms of screens. Hopefully, with a good story and performances, ‘Devi’ can get the upper hand this Friday.

Kavalai Vendam

The fourth movie in the October 7 race is Jiiva and Kajal Aggarwal’s ‘Kavalai Vendam’. Unlike its title, the makers of this movie have plenty to worry about as it has little to no hype so far. It seems highly unlikely that this Deekay film will be able to make a big impact considering who its competitors are. But at the end of the day, it is a romantic comedy with an adult twist and such films always fly well in K-town.

Kodi

After the big fight on October 7, another big day that is to be conquered is Diwali which is on October 27. Leading the race, for now, is Dhanush starrer ‘Kodi’. This political thriller is obviously at an advantage thanks to Dhanush’s star power if nothing else. However, it must be noted that the actor’s fame is not enough for the film to work which is what happened with ‘Thodari’ last month. Nevertheless, the buzz for the movie will be enough for ‘Kodi’ to dominate at least a week at the box office.

Kaashmora

This Karthi starrer makes the biggies list thanks to the explosive first look. Karthi captured the imagination of all Kollywood cinema fans with his downright scary warrior look. What’s more, ‘Kaashmora’ is a supernatural fantasy film and Tamil cinema always has a soft spot for such movies. An added advantage for this film is that it will release in both Tamil and Telugu, catering to a larger crowd.

Kathi Sandai

Vishal is at peak of his career with two back to back hits. He also holds the presidential position at Nadigar Sangam, making him a really powerful name in the industry. So his name now carries a certain weight which combined with a good plot could make ‘Kathi Sandai’ the winner of this mega clash. Moreover, it is also the comeback film for comedy king Vadivelu, who the people can’t get enough of. So with these many advantages, ‘Kathi Sandai’ also has a good chance of coming out on top.
