‘Thug Life’ box office collections day 15: Kamal Haasan’s film mints only Rs 47.52 crores; read more
Kamal Haasan’s much-anticipated action drama 'Thug Life' is witnessing a tepid run at the box office. Despite the massive pre-release buzz and a star-studded cast, the film has failed to impress at the ticket counters.
Thug Life Movie Review
According to the Sacnilk website, after 15 days of release, the movie has managed to collect only Rs 47.52 crore nett across all languages in India.
Underwhelming opening week shows sharp decline
'Thug Life' opened on a strong note with Rs 15.5 crore on its first day, driven mainly by the Tamil version’s performance. However, the collections dropped sharply on Day 2 with a 53.87% decline. The first weekend showed minor recovery, but by Monday. By the end of Week 1, the film had accumulated Rs 44 crore.
Second week collapse: A drastic dip
. From Rs 75 lakhs on its second Friday, the movie barely held on through the weekend with Rs 90 lakhs each on Saturday and Sunday.
On its 15th day (second Thursday), the film registered negligible earnings, effectively ending its box office journey at Rs 47.52 crore. Most of the collections came from the Tamil version, with Hindi and Telugu contributing marginally.
Star power couldn’t save the film
Directed by Mani Ratnam, 'Thug Life' boasted a massive ensemble including Kamal Haasan, Trisha, Silambarasan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, and many others in lead roles.
ETimes review for the film reads, "Thug Life becomes a slog. The latter half goes haywire with many of the sub-plots from the earlier portions either being diluted or largely getting shoved away for a long amount of time. Even Amaran goes missing for quite some time. Instead what we get are preposterous scenes of Sakthivel's survival after being shot at or stabbed multiple times. The threat of Sadanand ceases to exist and Deepak feels like a weak antagonist who makes moves that are predictable. Even AR Rahman seems to lose interest and delivers a background score that feels random. The rich production values, especially Ravi K Chandran's glossy visuals, the mystery around the fate of Chandra and the inevitable face-off between Sakthivel and Amaran make us stay invested."
