Sivakumar-Suriya to Karthik-Gautham Karthik: Father-son duos in Tamil cinema who came together on the big screen

Expectations of fans always rise when filmmakers try different ideas in their movies. While some try different pairings, some try different filmmaking techniques. There have been times when makers have tried to bring in real-life father-son duos on the big screens to spell some magic over their audience. Moreover, it has worked out quite well for them, and many films gained good reviews from the audience for these castings. Now, Vikram and Dhruv Vikram are set to come together for Karthik Subbaraj’s film, and fans are eagerly waiting to see the deadly combo together on the big screens. On this note, we revisit films which featured real-life father-son duos who rocked the films with their performances.

After doing several super hit films, Suriya shared screen space with his father Sivakumar in the film 'Uyirile Kalanthathu'. The 2000 film, which was directed by KR Jaya, opened to mixed reviews, and it was later dubbed in Hindi and Telugu.

Vijayakumar - Arun Vijay

Arun Vijay first acted with his father Vijayakumar in the 2001 film 'Pandavar Bhoomi', which was directed by Pandavar Bhoomi, and both played as father and son on the big screens too. Also, they played the same in the films 'Maanja Velu' and 'Kuttram 23', which were directed by A Venkatesh and Arivazhagan respectively.

4/8

Sibiraj - Sathyaraj

Sibiraj acted along with his father Sathyaraj for the four continuous films 'Jore', 'Mannin Maindhan', 'Vetrivel Sakthivel', and 'Kovai Brothers'. All films did well for the actor, and Sibiraj developed a place for himself in the industry.

5/8

Vijay - Sanjay

To add more power to his 2009 film 'Vettaikaran', which was directed by Babusivan, Vijay allowed his son Sanjay to appear for a special performance in the opening song of the film. This made fans go crazy over the song in theaters, and the film turned into a super hit one.

6/8

Jayam Ravi - Arav

Jayam Ravi and his elder son Arav shared screen space in the 2018 film 'Tik Tik Tik', which was directed by Shakti Soundar Raja. Jayam Ravi and Arav featured as father and son on the big screens in the space action drama which was mixed with emotions. Arav seemed cute in the film and bagged a few awards for his performance.

7/8

Vijay Sethupathi - Surya

Vijay Sethupathi attempts different techniques and new ideas for his films. The capable actor shared screen space with his son Surya in the action thriller 'Sindhubath', but the 2019 film, which was directed by SU Arun Kumar didn't convert big at the box office.

Karthik - Gautham Karthik

Gautham Karthik made his debut in the film 'Kadal' under the direction of Mani Ratnam. The handsome actor then was selective in choosing his films, and cemented a place for himself. Gautham Karthik and Karthik came together in the 2018 sports comedy thriller 'Mr. Chandramouli', which was directed by Thiru. However, Karthik got more love from fans than his son for his charming acting.
