On September 2,
Rajinikanth shared an official post on his Twitter account in Tamil, calling Mari’s film 'Vaazhai' a ‘brilliant’ piece of cinema.
The translation of Rajinikanth’s Tamil post reads, "I recently watched Mari Selvaraj’s 'Vaazhai'. After a long time, a brilliant and quality film has emerged in Tamil cinema. Mari Selvaraj took us back to his childhood days through this film. It almost feels like we are experiencing sadness and cruelty when we see the young lad in it. My heart ached when I saw him searching for food in extreme hunger in the climax, and in the scene where his mother weeps, thinking that she hadn’t let her son eat a handful of rice. Mari Selvaraj has proven himself to be a brilliant director with this creation. My heartfelt wishes and congratulations to him."
Soon after, Selvaraj re-shared the note with a picture he had taken with the superstar previously and penned a heartfelt gratitude message: "I am writing this to you with the same dream of the boy who collected and kept your pictures in an old scrapbook, expressing with his tiny fingers. Thank you for your wishes and support, our superstar."
Earlier, in the press meet for 'Vaazhai', Mari Selvaraj shared his wish to make a film with Rajinikanth and added that they are currently discussing a new script. He mentioned that Rajinikanth called him after watching 'Pariyerum Perumal', 'Karnan', and 'Maamannan'.
