Karur stampede case: Vijay appears before Central Bureau of Investigation; Leaves Delhi HQ after 7-hour questioning

Actor Vijay appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Karur stampede case and the questioning took place at the agency’s headquarters in New Delhi.Vijay reportedly spent nearly seven hours at the CBI office on Sunday (March 15) and the investigators questioned him about the circumstances surrounding the tragic stampede that occurred during his political outreach programme in Tamil Nadu last year.The actor-politician arrived earlier in the day to cooperate with the investigation. For the unversed, the probe relates to the 2025 Karur stampede, which resulted in multiple casualties. After the lengthy questioning session, Vijay left the CBI headquarters in the evening. A large number of supporters had gathered outside the building while he was inside.According to On Manorama reports, the actor acknowledged the crowd as he exited the premises. He briefly smiled and waved at supporters waiting outside.Reports say that Vijay left the premises at around 6.00 pm. Standing through the sunroof of his car, he waved to the supporters before leaving the location. Videos of Vijay greeting supporters after the questioning have generated mixed reactions on social media. One comment read, "Wonder when will they ever get out of fanboy frenzy mode and be politicized?."Another user expressed anger about the tragedy linked to the case. The comment stated, "He is one of the main culprit and reason behind 41 innocent lives, how can he laugh and laugh during investigation."Earlier, the CBI had issued a notice asking Vijay to appear for questioning on March 9. However, the actor requested a 15-day extension to attend the inquiry. The agency rejected the request and insisted that he appear before investigators as scheduled.Reportedly, Vijay had also requested that the questioning be conducted in Chennai or another office in Tamil Nadu and the request was reportedly made due to his busy schedule and election preparations. However, the CBI declined the request and asked him to appear at its headquarters in Delhi.The case relates to the tragic stampede that occurred on September 27 last year during a political rally organised by Vijay’s party.The incident took place in Karur, Tamil Nadu, and led to the death of 41 people. Initially, the case was handled by a Special Investigation Team (SIT). Later, the Supreme Court of India directed that the probe be transferred to the CBI. Reportedly, Vijay had already been questioned twice by investigators in January as part of the probe.On the work front, Vijay will be next seen in 'Jana Nayagan'.
