The production team filed a formal complaint against CBFC following the certification delays halted the film's theatrical release. Although the necessary clearance was eventually obtained, the situation has now spiralled into a legal battle that left the release date in doubt, sparking intense speculation throughout the film industry and among fans.

SSR Entertainment confirms January 14 release plan

Amidst the chaos, SSR Entertainment, the distributors of 'Jana Nayagan' in Kerala have officially declared the movie will be released on January 14. The declaration was made via a post on X (formerly Twitter) notifying netizens and fans alike of the new release date. This update has brought some clarity to the film’s release strategy, at least in Kerala, and has raised expectations that the makers may align the release in other regions around the same date.

Meanwhile, the censor issue remains under legal scrutiny. During the hearing at the Madras High Court, the presiding judge made strong observations in favour of the film, stating that the complaint raised against 'Jana Nayagan' was “dangerous” and should not be encouraged.The judge questioned how a film could be sent for re-examination based solely on the objection of a single member, noting that once a UA certificate had been granted, the chairperson’s authority stood concluded. Accordingly, the order sending the film for re-examination was quashed, and directions were issued to grant the UA censor certificate without delay.

Appeal keeps pan-India release date in wait-and-watch mode

However, the matter has not been entirely concluded. The chairperson of the Censor Board has filed an appeal against the single judge’s order, and the case has now moved to the Chief Justice’s bench. The bench has indicated that the appeal may be considered after formal submission. Earlier, the legal advisers of the film claimed that a decision regarding the release date would be made only after the completion of the legal process. In this context, SSR Entertainment's post on January 14 comes across as a crucial development, indicating that ‘Jana Nayagan’ is nearing its theatrical release.

The film also features Bobby Deol as the primary antagonist. Supporting cast includes Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Narain and others. Meanwhile Vijay was last seen in 'GOAT' which was directed by Venkat Prabhu and received mixed reviews. 'GOAT' also featured Sivakarthikeyan in a cameo role. The movie received mixed reviews.
