Lekha Washington is excited about Va - Quarter Cutting, a film in which she co-stars Shiva and SPB Charan. ���������I just had to do this film,��������� she states matter-of-factly about the film in which she plays a young girl with suicidal tendencies!
In contrast, her role in an upcoming Kannada flick is ���������commercial���������. ���������It���������ll show audiences that I can look pretty!��������� The actress, who was in the city recently for the audio launch of her Va - Quarter Cutting, gets talking to TOI.
A role to die for!
So, what���������s her role in Pushkar-Gayathri���������s interestingly-titled film? ���������I play a 19-year-old in it. She has suicidal tendencies. I got into the film only because I could like really act in it. And no, I don���������t relate much to the character because I���������m not 19 and I don���������t have suicidal tendencies!���������
���������No sis roles, please���������
After making Kollywood take notice with her performance in Jayam Kondaan, the sassy Lekha got several similar offers. ���������I was only getting offers to play sister,��������� she recalls, ���������I was bored of it and went to Bollywood. Mumbai treated me well and I got some interesting stuff to do there. In fact, I���������ll be doing a film with Amitabh Bachchan soon and I���������m looking forward to it.���������
Refreshingly different
The script of Va - Quarter Cutting, along with the fact that it was directed by her close friends, Lekha says, was the clinching factor for her to do the film. ���������The script was refreshingly different,��������� she states, ���������And, this was something I had to do as it was directed by Pushkar and Gayatri. They���������re my closest pals.���������
Change for the better
The actress has matured a lot since her VJing days. ���������I���������m a little more cynical now, I guess,��������� she feels, ���������And I don���������t expect the world to be bright and rosy. So yes, I���������ve grown a lot, but my acting is perhaps the same as before!���������
���������Pushkar is sometimes Anniyan!���������
Her combination with the Oram Po directors is sure to get audiences hooked, she feels. Ask her about working with the director couple, that too mostly in the night, and she immediately shoots back, ���������The thing about Pushkar is that... he changes! Yes, after 3 am, he becomes like ���������Anniyan���������! If Gayathri is around, she helps by calming him down. The entire shooting schedule was super fun for the whole team.���������
Face off with Shiva
Shiva, the guy who rocked Kollywood in Tamizh Padam, gets a chance to light up the screen again in Va - Quarter Cutting. So, did he pull any tricks on her? ���������Shiva���������s face won���������t change even if he���������s cracking a joke or pulling my leg... it remains the same throughout the prank. That way, you���������ll know the actual implications of what he���������d said only after a while!���������
Future Kollywood projects
She might be busy in several languages, but Lekha is game for interesting Kollywood offers. Any projects she has taken on? ���������No,��������� she says, ���������It depends on the kind of work I get here.���������
