He had entered into an agreement with the producer that he had to be compensated if he suffered loss in screening the 2009 released film, Thirumagan, with Suriya in the lead role. As he incurred loss , Thanu had to pay Rs two lakh to the theatre owner. As the producer did not pay the amount, David moved the principal subordinate court, Nagerkoil seeking directions to recover the amount with interest.
In 2013, the court ruled in David’s favour, following which he filed a transit and execution petition before the X assistant city civil court to transfer the case and recover the amount. Counsel for David, K Elangovan said the case was transferred to the city as Dhanu was based in Chennai. “Dhanu has spent several crore on making the movie Kabali and he has the sufficient resources for repaying David,” said Elangovan.
On Tuesday, judge K Ganesan ordered to arrest Dhanu for not following court orders by November 28 — the next date of hearing.
