Deedar Kaur on her first Pollywood song ‘Tere Naa Naal’: I instantly fell in love with it - Exclusive

Deedar Kaur is a famous name in both the Hindi and Punjabi music world. She gave vocals to a number of singles in the Punjabi music industry and sang for Bollywood movies. And recently she also made her Pollywood singing debut with the song ‘Tere Naa Naal’ that featured in the movie ‘Mera Baba Nanak’. The singer in her exclusive conversation with ETimes shared how she got the project and how thrilled she was to be a part of such a beautiful song.

Excerpts from the conversation are below:

The story behind bagging the first Pollywood song

“Okay, so let me share this wonderful story with you. Please stay with me until the end, as it's quite intriguing. Jaskirat Singh, the talented composer, reached out to my father to discuss a song he wanted me to sing. During dinner, my father mentioned the call, and unlike our usual conversations, this one seemed different. Usually, composers approach me directly, so I wasn't too moved by it initially. However, the next call was more convincing. Jaskirat and I had a conversation about the song, and I could sense his genuineness and passion”.

“He mentioned that my name was referred to him by the director of the movie, Amanmeet Singh. Jaskirat shared the song with me, and I instantly fell in love with it. Without wasting a single moment, I dialed him back to discuss the details and the concept of the song. With utmost excitement, I put on my headphones, adjusted the microphone, set everything up, and recorded the song in just 45 minutes.”

“Good songs find their way to good teams”

“This song touched my heart deeply, and I immensely enjoyed singing it. Even the composer, upon hearing the final result, playfully admitted that he hadn't anticipated it to be this good. But as they say, good songs find their way to good teams, and that's exactly what happened with "Tere Naa Naal" ♥️.”

“On another pleasant Sunday afternoon, I had the opportunity to meet the director, Amanmeet Singh, at the Gurudwara. He expressed his genuine admiration for my voice, and it was revealed that he had seen me perform at the Gurudwara one fine Sunday morning. From there, he approached my father, took his contact details, and the rest, as they say, is history.”

This is how "Mera Baba Nanak" gave me the song in the film "Mera Baba Nanak" ♥️, marking my debut in the Punjabi film industry. It truly feels like the beginning of a beautiful chapter in the remarkable Punjabi industry.

Future projects

Last but not least, Deedar shared about her upcoming projects. She told us, "I am ecstatic to share that I have a compilation of songs in an upcoming album, set to release on Times Music very soon. I am thrilled to work on this album, as it gives me the chance to showcase my versatility and various talents, reminiscent of the golden era of music.”
