Celebrities avoid speaking about social issues

Monica Gill is one of the Punjabi stars who has never feared speaking her mind on any given topic. Be it the issue of farmers’ protests or any injustice that she sees, the actress makes sure that she shares her opinion through her social media. However, she does believe that celebrities, in general, avoid getting into such conversations. “Yes, I do feel that stars generally try to avoid speaking on controversial topics because they believe it might affect their fan following, their social media followers, or most importantly, their work,” said Monica Gill.

Being vocal about public topics sometimes costs stars opportunities

This is one of the sad realities of the industry that if a star becomes vocal about social topics or puts forward his viewpoint on a controversial topic it sometimes makes him lose a lot of good work. Monica Gill told us that she also believes that things like these happen and people do lose opportunities. However, it has never stopped her from speaking her mind and she added, “As the saying goes, “when you are silent in times of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.””

Celebrities are easy targets

There are always two sides to every story. On one hand, where we believe celebrities avoid speaking on topics of social or public concern, on the other, it has been noticed that when they speak, they are trolled by the netizens brutally. Sharing her viewpoint on this, Monica said, “I do feel celebs are trolled more than normal public because we make for easy targets. People feel like they have some sort of “right” over us.”

5/5

Handling trolls

When it comes to handling trolls, maximum celebs believe ignorance is bliss. Monica Gill also believes the same, she told us, “I honestly believe that people who sit on social media and try to bring another person down do so because they have nothing better to do with their own lives. Most trolls are anonymous because they don’t want to become targets themselves and usually have very low self-esteem. I usually just block, ignore, and move on. Working within the public sphere for so long, I’ve learned to let things roll off my back.”
