Indie music bands foray into Marathi films as composers

From single tracks to composing the film’s music, bands are jumping onto the film music scene after having proved their mettle on the indie music circuit. With their compositions, these musicians have given the Marathi audiences a unique kind of music to listen to. We bring you such artistes who rocked the industry with their songs.

Film: Vaadivasacha Hardik Subhecha
Band: Moksh
For Moksh, this marks their debut as composers in the Marathi film industry. An independent Marathi rock band from Mumbai, the band has kept their style alive in the film’s music as well. According to Sagar Joshi, the bass player of the band, while composing for the movie they kept the track commercial and introduced a rock element in the track as well.

The band recently put up one of the tracks online, which received a good response.

Film: Akalpith
Band: Parikrama
Musicians Sonam Sherpa, Nitin Malik and Subir Malik from the Delhi-based rock band Parikrama composed the Hindi theme song Har Ek Ko Benaqab Kar for the Marathi film Akalpith.

Speaking about the song Prasad Achrekar, director of the film, said, “We needed a song that emoted aggression. Lyricist Guru Thakur did an excellent job of penning the lyrics. The song speaks about how every colour depicts our life.”

Film: Bhatukali
Band: Jasraj, Hrishikesh, Saurabh

Individually, these youngsters have already created a buzz on the music scene. They composed music for Bhatukali together and managed to bring a certain level of maturity to it.

While Jasraj is known for his stint in the Marathi reality singing contest Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and was also part of the Pune-based band Lambada, Hrishikesh Datar has been the drummer for Agnee and Saurabh has been a background scorer for films like Akalpith, Chintoo, among others.

Film: Shala
Band: Agnee
Agnee frontman Mohan K and the guitarist Koco are well known artistes in the indie as well as mainstream music scene. The song 'Sadaa' from 'Shala' had Mohan singing it and doing justice to its strong lyrics and music.

This song came as a welcome change on the Marathi music circuit and gave way for experimentation to other music composers as well. The classical song composed by the band received a great response from music enthusiasts and film buffs alike.
