'Bhadrakali' to 'Subhedar': FIVE Marathi period dramas to look forward to

The Marathi period films are gaining recognition and acceptance internationally, both for their grandeur and the performances of the actors. There is a number of upcoming most anticipated five Marathi period films which are set to release in 2023.

'Chhatrapati Tararani'


The film will be titled ‘Moghul Mardini Chhatrapati Tararani’ and is based on one of the greatest epics of valour of the warrior queen Chhatrapati Tararani (played by Sonalee Kulkarni) who fought with the Mughals, Nizamshahi, Aadilshahi, Qutub shahi, Dutch, British, Portuguese, Siddis at the same time.

This mega-blockbuster, one-of-a-kind, film will be produced in both Marathi and English. Chhatrapati Tararani will create history yet again, this time as a first-ever Marathi Hollywood film.

‘Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat’


Mahesh Manjrekar's 'Veer Daudle Saat' showcases the story of the extraordinary bravery shown by the seven Maratha officers of the Swarajya. in 1674. The participants were Visaji Ballal, Deepoji Rautrao, Vitthal Pilaji Atre, Krishnaji Bhaskar, Siddhi Hilal, Vithoji Shinde, Sarnaubat Kudtoji alias Prataprao Gujar.

'Subhedar'

After impressing the audience with the series of movies on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his army, starting from 'Farzand', 'Fatteshikast', 'Pawankhind' and 'Sher Shivraj', actor-director Digpal Lanjekar has announced the fifth part of the series which is titled as 'Subhedar'.

Subedar Tanaji Malusare was a military leader in the Maratha Empire of Chhatrapati Shivaji. He led an army that successfully captured the Kondhana fort from a Rajput fort keeper named Udaybhan Singh Rathore.

'Bhadrakali'

After impressing one and everyone with his back-to-back hit films, actor-director Digpal Lanjekar is now all set to team up with Director Prasad Oak to bring the valour of the first woman chief of Maratha, Sarsenapati Umabai on the big screen. Filmmaker Digpal Lanjekar said, "Bhadrakali' revolves around the first woman chief of Maratha, Sarsenapati Umabai."

'Baghtos Kay Mujra Kar 2'

After impressing the audience with his directorial debut film, 'Baghtos Kay Mujra Kar', the ace filmmaker is all set to take the audience on a historical ride with his upcoming sequel of 'Baghtos Kay Mujra Kar'.

While speaking to Etimes, director Hemant Dhome said "I started my work on the script during the lockdown. The idea of coming up with the sequel of 'Baghtos Kay... Mujra Kar!' was coined when our original was released on the OTT platform and we got a good response to it. So, I think this lockdown has helped me to work on the sequel of 'Baghtos Kay... Mujra Kar."
