Tragedies with Mollywood actors that shook the industry

The Mollywood industry has experienced an unexpected loss of many of its favourite artists in the past. Be it accidents or uncalled tragedies, few of the best Mollywood’s bests have turned into memories in no time. Here we go down the memory lane and remember some of the great artists who left the stage when tragedies came calling...
2/6

Jayan

He is remembered even today as the first hero of Mollywood. Jayan, whose original name was Krishnan Nair, started his career by doing small roles in Malayalam films. Although he got noticed and appreciated for his negative character in ‘Panchami’, it was his anti-hero role in ‘Sarpancharam’ that became a breakthrough in Jayan's career as the actor soon was raised to popularity for his physique and unique style of dialogue delivery.
The actor, however, met with an unfortunate accident during the shoot of the movie 'Kolilakkam' where Jayan fell off from a Helicopter and died when he was at the peak of his career.
3/6

Jagathy Sreekumar

Great performer and an incomparable artist, Jagathy Sreekumar has been a vital element in almost all of the Malayalam cinema released during the 1990's. He holds the Guinness record for acting in the most number of films. A comedian par excellence Jagathy's range as an actor was beyond comprehension.

The news of Jagathy's accident came as a shocker in 2012 from which the actor haven't still recovered completely.
4/6

Monisha Unni

Melancholy in her eyes, subtlety in her expressions, Monisha was one of the most adored actresses in the industry. Her performances talk for her calibre as an actor. She won the National award for best actress at the age of 16 for her debut movie 'Nakhakshathangal'. But this talented actress couldn't excel for long in the industry as she met with an unfortunate road accident in 1992 and left for the heavenly abode.

Kalabhavan Mani

Kalabhavan Mani, who was a known for his charity work and performances as an actor, was popular not only in Malayalam film industry but in the whole of South India. His trademark laugh and humorous characters will last forever even in his fans' minds.

His unfortunate demise in 2016 was shocking news to cinema world. There were many rumours and controversies surrounding his death, none of them proved true till date. The actor has done several movies in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu before death came calling.

Sreenath

Sreenath, who started his acting career with hit movies like 'Shalini Ente Kootukari', 'Ithu Njangalude Kadha' and others, was a versatile supporting actor in Mollywood for a long time. After the end of his first troubled marriage with Shanthi Krishna, he re-married Latha. Sreenath worked with leading actors like Mammootty and Mohanlal in major hit movies like ‘CBI Diary Kurup’, ‘Kireedam Chenkol’, ‘Devasuram’ etc, but, couldn't sustain longer in the industry reportedly due to inside politics.

The actor then turned his focus on television serials. Always been sad about being left out of roles he deserved, Sreenath was found dead in Kothamangalam in 2010 while he was reportedly shooting for movie ‘Shikar’, starring Mohanlal. His brother then held a press meet saying that he smells a foul play in his brother's demise as none from the sets of ‘Shikar’ attended the funeral or contacted Sreenath's family. Later, reports suggested that Sreenath was excluded from ‘Shikar’, as he wasn't a part of the actor's organisation 'AMMA'. Though nothing has been proved true, the death of this talented actor leads to many suspicious stories in M-town.
