Thrilling, dazzling, and inspiring are some of the few words that describe the 63rd Filmfare Awards. It was a night when movies and movie stars celebrated their success. An amalgamation of three industries, the award function witnessed high-octane performances and some anxious moments of anticipation. The glitzy event also saw some of the best talent in Malayalam cinema being honoured. Let us look at some of the artistes who were honoured for their performances with the coveted Black Lady.

Best Actor – Mammootty

Megastar Mammootty bagged the Best Actor Award in Malayalam at the 63rd Britannia Filmfare Awards (South) 2016 for his realistic portrayal of Pallikkal Narayanan in ‘Pathemari.’ Mammootty received his award from Tollywood’s megastar Chiranjeevi. He won the award against his son who was nominated in the same category for his performance in ‘Charlie.’

Best Actor Female – Parvathy

After much speculation, actress Parvathy won the award Best Actor Female Award for her performance in ‘Ennu Ninte Moideen.’ Parvathy dedicated her award to the bunch of artistes from the industry who passed away recently. She said, "I dedicate this to the technicians, actors and filmmakers we lost in 2016." It is for the second time she has grabbed the Best Actress title at Filmfare. Earlier, she had won the award in 2009 for Tamil movie ‘Poo.’

Best Debut - Sai Pallavi

Sai Pallavi aka Malar of "Premam" won the Best Debut Award at the 63rd Britannia Filmfare Awards South 2016 held at HICC Complex in Hyderabad. The actress has been on roll this year with movies like ‘Kali’ and ‘Shikhamani.’

Best Supporting Actor Female - Leena

Actress Lena, who carved a niche in Malayalam film industry with her power-packed performances and versatile roles, walked away with the Best Supporting Actress Award at the 63rd Britannia Filmfare Awards 2016. She won it for her fantastic performance in ‘Ennu Ninte Moideen.’

Best Supporting Actor Male - Tovino Thomas

Tovino Thomas, who played the character of Perrupparambil Appu in ‘Ennu Ninte Moideen’, won the Best Supporting Actor Award at the 63rd Filmfare Awards South, 2016. After winning the award for the Best Supporting Actor, he said, "I dedicate this award to my baby girl. Appu is a turning point in my career."

Best Music Director – M Jayachndran

M Jayachndran received the Best Music Director award from Seema for ‘Ennu Ninte Moideen’ during the 63rd Britannia Filmfare Awards South 2016 held at HICC Complex in Hyderabad. The soul-stirring music of ‘Ennu Ninte Moideen’ had been making waves ever since it was launched. The music of the film even fetched the composer a National Award.

Salim Ahamed's film ‘Pathemari’ has been winning laurels across award shows since its release. The movie emerged the Best Malayalam Film of the year. The director later said, "Filmfare Awards have a value. We compete with commercial and non commercial. So it’s a honour getting this award."

Jayasurya received the Critics Jury Award for Best Actor (Male) for Malayalam from Resul Pookutty during the 63rd Britannia Filmfare Awards South 2016 held at HICC Complex in Hyderabad. The actor won the award for his performance in ‘Su Su Sudhi Vathmeekam’.

Best Director - R S Vimal

RS Vimal walked away with the Best Director Award at the 63rd Filmfare Awards South, 2016. The movie that stars Prithviraj and Parvathy in the lead role had also won nominations in the Best Actor, Actress and music categories. After winning the award, he said, "I dedicate all awards to God and Moideen. Thank you Prithvi, Lena and every friend."
