Week that was! Mammootty to Nadhirshah, M-Town celebs who made headlines

Malayalam cinema has had an action-packed week. From Mammootty completing 50 years of his career in cinema to Nadhirshah’s film ‘Eesho’ making controversies for its title, here’s a quick recap of what made headlines in M-Town this week.

Mammootty's first appearance in front of the camera was in 1971, for the film ‘Anubhavangal Palichakal’. The film clocked 50 years of its release on August 6 and so is Mammootty’s career in cinema. Although Mammootty was a junior artist for the film, as it marks his first bond with the camera, the fans celebrated the occasion with social media hashtags and trends.

Nadhirshah’s upcoming directorial ‘Eesho’ made headlines this week. The film’s title ‘Eesho’ created a buzz amongst Christian believers. The film has Jayasurya in the lead, and following the controversy, director Nadhirshah clarified that ‘Eesho’ is just the name of the character and has nothing to do with Lord Jesus. He affirmed that the film won’t hurt religious sentiments and also shared that he has no plans to change the title.

Manasa Radhakrishnan is all set to make her Telugu debut. She will be sharing the screen with Vijay Deverakonda’s brother Anand. The upcoming Telugu movie is touted to be a crime thriller and is directed by cinematographer-turned-filmmaker K V Guhan.

Popular playback singer Kalyani Menon died on August 2, at the age of 80. She was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai due to an age-related illness. Kalyani Menon was one of the popular singers in Malayalam and Tamil movies. She has worked with KJ Yesudas several times and some of her best works include 'Rithubheda Kalpana Charutha Nalkiya' of 1983 movie 'Mangalam Nerunnu' and 'Pavanarachezhuthunnu Kolangalennum' of Mohanlal-starrer 'Vietnam Colony' released in the year 1992. She is also the mother of noted director Rajiv Menon.

The ‘Angamaly Diaries’ actor Antony Varghese Pepe tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend Anisha Paulose. The duo got engaged to his lady love Anisha in a low-key ceremony held at Angamaly and got married on August 7. Anisha and Antony are childhood friends.
