‘The film could happen only…’: Anoop Menon on his directorial starring Mohanlal
Mohanlal, who is currently filming for ‘Thudarum’, has an exciting year ahead, with multiple projects in the pipeline, including an Anoop Menon directorial. Last year, actor-writer-filmmaker Anoop Menon announced that he would direct Mohanlal; however, there have been no updates ever since. Anoop Menon has finally opened up about the delay and why it is on hold.
Anoop Menon’s directorial starring Mohanlal faced a long delay after a change in the production banner. He has now stated that the film is on hold until the right producer comes onboard.
Anoop Menon, who is promoting ‘Ee Thani Niram’ in which he plays the lead role, spoke about the ‘technical glitch’ surrounding his next with Mohanlal. Talking to reporters at the promotional event, Anoop Menon said it is too ‘early’ to discuss his directorial, especially Mohanlal’s character in it. “I can only talk about it when the production starts. The production that was attached to it did not work out. So, there is that kind of a technical glitch to it," Anoop Menon said.
He acknowledged that the delay is because he is hell-bent on finding the right producer. "I feel that it (his adamancy) will keep the film in good stead. Lalettan also feels that we should wait for the right producer to come onboard. Only then will the film will materialise.”
Anoop Menon also added that finding the right producer would take time, and that he has no plans to rush the project. "Mohanlal has many films to do, and I also have some to keep me afloat. The film could happen only at a time when the whole production team is happy with everything. It might be this year or the next. Let it happen at that time. Everything is rosy and happy," he said.
Anoop Menon announced his directorial featuring Mohanlal last year (2025). “Delighted to announce my next film, a dramatic journey traversing love, longing, and music to be shot extensively in Thiruvananthapuram, Kolkata, and Shillong,” he said. “This subject is so close to my heart,” Anoop Menon added.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the latest Hindi movies, upcoming Hindi movies in 2026 , and Telugu movies.”
