Suriya pays last respects to Sreenivasan; ‘I was a huge admirer,’ says 'Karuppu' actor
Tamil actor Suriya visited the residence of legendary actor, writer, and director Sreenivasan at Kandanad in Ernakulam to pay his last respects. The actor arrived quietly and spent time offering prayers for the departed soul.
As reported by Asianet News, in an interaction with media, Suriya said, “I was a huge admirer of Sreenivasan.” He added that he had closely followed his films even before entering cinema. He also said he was praying for Sreenivasan’s soul to rest in peace. The visit took place while Suriya was in Ernakulam for the shooting of his upcoming film.
Sreenivasan suffered breathing difficulties while being taken to a private hospital for dialysis. He was rushed to the Tripunithura Taluk Hospital, where he passed away shortly after.
The mortal remains were kept for public viewing at the Town Hall and later at his residence. The body was brought to the Town Hall around 1 p.m., and public viewing was held until 4 p.m.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also arrived to offer his respects. Tributes poured in from across the country, with stars from Rajinikanth to Prithviraj Sukumaran remembering the legend.
Mammootty paid tribute with a short but touching message. He wrote, “Can’t stop thinking about you, my friend…”
Mohanlal shared an emotional note remembering his lifelong bond with Sreenivasan. He wrote, “He left without saying goodbye. I don’t know how to put into words the deep soul-connection I shared with Sreeni.”
He added, “Malayalis saw their own face in the characters Sreeni created. Through him, they saw their own pains and joys.”
Recalling their iconic roles, Mohanlal said, “Dasan and Vijayan became people of our own for every Malayali solely because of Sreeni’s blessed brilliance in writing.”

Final rites and public farewell
The funeral rites of Sreenivasan will be held on this day at 10 a.m. at his residence in Kandanad, Tripunithura.Sreenivasan suffered breathing difficulties while being taken to a private hospital for dialysis. He was rushed to the Tripunithura Taluk Hospital, where he passed away shortly after.
