Remembering Jayan on his birth anniversary with his stellar performances

Starring in over 150 Malayalam films, the late Mollywood legend Jayan is indeed an actor who has dabbled in many skills apart from performing characters on screen. From power-packed dialogue delivery to intense and risky action sequences, Jayan never failed to make the audience in awe, and on November 16, when Jayan succumbed to injuries while performing a risky helicopter stunt for the action film ‘Kolilakkam’, the Malayalam film industry lost a gem. Today, 25th July marks the day when the legendary actor was born, and let's take a look at some of the finest performances of the veteran late actor Jayan.

Without Jayan, the dialogue ‘We are not beggars’ would not have been famous among the Malayali audience as the actor’s unique swag was on full display while delivering this short and massy dialogue in the movie ‘Angaadi’. Helmed by the director IV Sasi, ‘Angaadi’ told the story of a laborer named Babu who works for the welfare of the people and fights against injustice in society. Apart from Jayan, the film also featured the actors Sukumaran, Seema, and Jose in significant roles.

Although being a Jack of all trades, Jayan was most popularly known among the Malayali audience for his terrific action performances in films. Joshiy’s directorial film ‘Moorkhan’ brought out the complete swag of Jayan and the film also gained much adulation among the audience. Seema played the female lead role in the action thriller and the actors Balan K Nair and Kuthiravattam Pappu played significant roles in the film.

The 1980 film ‘Love in Singapore’, as the name itself suggests, was a romantic action entertainer starring Prem Nazir and Jayan in lead roles. The film directed by Baby told the story of two brothers, Premachandran and Suresh, who join forces to take revenge on a mafia don named Sethu who killed their father. Latha played the female lead in the movie and Jose Prakash played the antagonist.

Jayan starrer ‘Shakthi’ was released in the year 1980 and the action thriller was directed by Vijayanand and the script by Bichu Thirumala. The Jayan starrer showcased several risky action sequences including the climax mirror fight which was inspired by the Bruce Lee film ‘Enter the dragon’ released in the year 1973. Jayan played the character named Vijayan and the film also featured TP Madhavan, Seema, Manavalan Joseph, and Jagathi Sreekumar in pivotal roles.
