Speaking exclusively to ETimes, Jis Joy shared, “I met KPAC

Lalitha

in person for the first time, when I was filming for a commercial in 2007. We often hear that when actors like Mammootty, Mohanlal, or Manju Warrier perform in front of the camera, at that moment, we might be doubtful if they are acting or not. But once we look into the preview monitor, we will be awed, because they give just the right amount of performance. It’s pure magic. KPAC Lalitha had that magic.”

Jis Joy further added, that casting KPAC Lalitha in his movies, weren’t deliberate, but something that happened organically. “KPAC Lalitha has worked in many advertisements that I have helmed. And that’s how I approached her for my debut movie ‘Bicycle Thieves’, and all the three - ‘Sunday Holiday’, ‘Vijay Superum Pournamiyum’, and ‘Mohan Kumar Fans’ that followed. She was like a family member to me, and Amma (KPAC Lalitha) too considered me the same way. People often ask me, that my movies always have Siddique and Lalitha amma. But it wasn’t deliberate, when you create a character, they easily fit in. For instance, in ‘Sunday Holiday’, Lalitha amma has a dialogue, where she says that “if you try to see the heart of the person standing opposite to you, we all are good people.” She is saying that to Asif Ali’s character, who had beaten up her on-screen son Benny the previous day. Though that is sort of a warning, her words have deeper meaning. I was on the verge of tears watching KPAC Lalitha perform that scene in ‘Sunday Holiday’. I haven’t ever been that emotional, while directing a scene. That was the beauty she brought to the characters,” Jis Joy shared.
