Allu Arjun aka ‘Mallu’ Arjun: These films are the reasons why we Malayalis love the superstar

At a time when most of the Malayalis were even unaware of the existence of Telugu films, there was this actor Allu Arjun who opened the door for them to the Telugu film industry. Tollywood star Allu Arjun, or popularly known to us Malayali’s as ‘Mallu’ Arjun, has earned a special love among the Malayali audience that no other non-malayali actors have achieved in Kerala. Several Malayalam dubbed Telugu films of Allu Arjun which were released from the year 2004 until now are the major reason why he is loved by the Malayali audience. The songs in his movies, dance sequences to even his fashion styles are highly relatable to any 90s Malayali kid. In one of the interviews actor, Allu Arjun himself said that he is called ‘Mallu’ Arjun by the Malayali audience and he actually likes it, as the name ‘Mallu’ Arjun works something like a lucky charm for him. As his upcoming film ‘Pushpa: The Rise’ is all set to release this week, let us take a look at those movies that helped Allu Arjun to build a huge fan base in Kerala and in the hearts of Malayalis.

Arya

‘Arya’, the Telugu romantic action film written and directed by Sukumar, could be said to be the film that introduced actor Allu Arjun to the Malayali audience. At the first glance itself, actor Allu Arjun had a special charm that grabbed the hearts of Malayalis. There was something unique and special about the acting skills of Allu Arjun, who played the titular character ‘Arya’ in the film. If you are a 90s Malayali kid, then you will surely remember crooning to the Malayalam dubbed song ‘Thakadhimithom’ and we all have tried to imitate his dance steps during school dance performances.

Happy

“Happy adipoli look aayal happy, look onnu kick aayal happy”, not one of us can forget this stylish Malayalam dubbed song from the film ‘Happy’, starring Allu Arjun, Genelia D’Souza and Manoj Bajpayee in the lead roles. The romantic story of the film ‘Happy’ had all the scope for a stylish actor like Allu Arjun to perform and steal the hearts of the audience. The film was written and directed by A. Karunakaran and the music was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Bunny The Lion

Another worthy addition to the best Malayalam dubbed movies of Allu Arjun is the film ‘Bunny’ which was written and directed by V.V Vinayak. The film ‘Bunny’ was the acting debut film of the popular actress Gowri Munjal who played the role of ‘Mahalakshmi’ in the film. Actor Prakash Raj played a major role in the film as a character named ‘Somaraju’. Although the film ‘Bunny’ had a usual storyline, the acting style of Allu Arjun and the songs in the film were the major reasons why Malayalis loved this movie.

Krishna

The film ‘Krishna’ which was released in the year 2008 was the Malayalam version of the popular Telugu blockbuster movie ‘Parugu’. Actors Allu Arjun, Prakash Raj, Sheela played major roles in the film and was directed by Bommarillu. The plot of the film ‘Krishna’ was unique from other usual romantic Telugu films and was a humongous hit during that time. One of the songs in the film was shot in Kodaikanal, Kerala. The popular Bollywood film ‘Heropanti’ was the remake of this film.

Arya 2

The film Arya 2 was the sequel to the hit film ‘Arya’ and was released in the year 2009. The execution style of this sequel was completely different from the previous film ‘Arya’ and had several prominent actors in the cast list such as Allu Arjun, Kajal Aggarwal, Shradda Das, Navdeep, etc. All of the songs in this Malayalam dubbed film were superhit during that time and even now. There was a popular song in the film ‘My Love is Gone’ and the dance steps performed by the actor Allu Arjun in that song were magnificent and trending among the Malayali audience back in the day.
