Earlier this month, we had reported that Kichcha Sudeep was in talks with the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) about buying a Karnataka Premier League (KPL) team. Now we have learnt that the actor could most likely be naming his team WAR, which stands for We Are Rockstars. The KPL T20 is the pet project of the late Scion of the Mysore Royal Family, Srikantadatta Wodeyar, and KSCA secretary
Brijesh Patel.
It is scheduled to begin on August 23 and interestingly, Sudeep had also pitched the idea of including an all-star team, comprising players from the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL). Sudeep is the captain of the Karnataka Bulldozers, which clinched the CCL trophy for the second year in a row.
KPL was established in 2009 and is modeled on the hugely-popular
Indian Premier League (
IPL). Bangalore Provident (Rural) won the first season, while Mangalore United were the winners of the second season.
