BTS ARMY rally with 'Purple Ribbon' campaign against haters sending wreaths to Suga over DUI case

The DUI case that has been surrounding BTS member Suga for the past few months has been an extremely contentious and controversial issue. Following the release of a sincere apology to the people and paying a heavy fine, he is still getting hash online criticism. For the past few days, netizens have started sending funeral wreaths to the headquarters of HYBE which is the agency of BTS, demanding him to be removed from the group. A report stated that it is illegal in South Korea to send funeral wreaths to a living person since the said act is actually a form of death threat.

It all got dark when one anti-fan came threatening to harm him, saying that if they could send wreaths to his house, they could send malevolent forces to destroy him.

Amid the increasing violence, Suga's fans, known as ARMY, stood up in his defense. Viral photos of fans forming a "purple ribbon" ahead of the wreaths are a testament to them standing in support of Suga. There were also queues of trucks to play Suga's songs in solidarity.

Suga's problems started when he was arrested for drunken driving of an e-scooter in Seoul. He then publicly apologized, saying, “I violated the traffic laws, thinking that it was close distance and not realizing that it is not allowed to ride an e-scooter after drinking. I bow my head and apologise to everyone”.

Even after months of inquiry, and Suga being fined 15 million won (Rs 9.5 lakh) for his offense, the artist is still embroiled in the controversy.
