The transition of Rohit, played by Aamir Khan, from being a carefree, romantic young lad to a loving, responsible father is noteworthy. Rohit plays a helpless father in the film who wants to provide everything to his kid but unfortunately can't due to his financial condition. He is forced to look after his son and also focus on his own failing career. After some teething troubles, Rohit succeeds in acing the single-dad act.

Ishwarchand Thakur, played by Amitabh Bachchan, is a loving, caring and jovial father but takes a certain step which creates a rift in the father-son relationship. Ishwar asks his son, played by Akshay Kumar, to leave the house. This was done in order to make him self-reliant as Ishwar had realised that he had lung cancer. His decision, while harsh, was necessary to make his son realise his responsibilities towards the family.

Alok Nath from Maine Pyaar Kiya: Alok Nath played a caring dad in Maine Pyaar Kiya. He played father to actress Bhagyashree Patwardhan’s character, Suman, in the film. In the movie, Alok played the character of Karan, a single dad who stays with his daughter, Suman. As Karan prepares to leave for work in a foreign country, he turns to Kishan, his old friend, to look after his daughter in his absence and also offer her a place to stay. Kishan allows Karan's daughter, Suman, to stay at his house. Karan, who is a self-made man, feels insulted when he learns that his daughter is not treated well and a few baseless allegations have been slapped against her.

He is an open-minded, single dad and wants his son to enjoy his life to the fullest as he could not enjoy his own life because he was burdened with household responsibilities at a young age. He helps his son get the love of his life. Anupam Kher played this role of a retired officer at the young age of 28. Since then he has played fathers to many Bollywood actors.

But later, the loving and caring father in Baldev allows his daughter to marry the one whom she loves. Amrish Puri played a doting father in the movie Pardes as well.
