Salman Khan convicted: What happens next?

The sentence has been pronounced for Salman Khan in the 2002 hit-and-run case. The actor had been on bail since October 25, 2002. The court found him guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under section 304-II of the IPC for an act committed with knowledge that it could result in someone's death. All charges against him have been proven and a Times Now report stated that he was driving the car under the influence of alcohol. The actor has been sentenced to 5 years imprisonment.

The verdict will be a huge blow for the film industry. Apparently, there is an amount as huge as Rs 200 crore riding on his next two films, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. The actor has been shooting for both the films and had arrived in Mumbai just a day before the verdict was to be announced. Bajrangi Bhaijaan is going to be Salman Khan's big Eid release on July 25, 2015. However the makers of the film were waiting for the verdict to decide their further course of action.

While several of Salman Khan's Bollywood films will get affected, his television commitments will also suffer. Salman has been the face of Bigg Boss 8 for as long as five seasons. His fans are ardent followers of the show. However, Salman’s absence may affect the TVPs of the popular reality show. While everyone has loved Bhai's humour and fun on the show, he will definitely be missed. Not just films and TV shows, but even brand endorsements of Salman will get affected.

Salman may reportedly be lodged in Thane or Taloja jail. Way back in 2002, the actor had been arrested and lodged in the Thane central jail for 18 days. According to a report, Salman will be first taken into police custody and then handed over to prison officials. Reports also suggest that considering his high-profile, several security arrangements have been made and instructions have been given to the law-enforcing agencies to send more police force.

While everyone in Salman Khan's family had been hoping for the best, his fans too seemed to be doing their bit. Salman’s fans, who run a restaurant under the name of Bhaijaanz, were to slash the prices of the restaurant to half if Salman was not convicted in the hit-and-run case, reported Pinkvilla.com. The restaurant is dedicated to Salman Khan and the walls are adorned with images that will remind one of the actor's glorious career.

Salman Khan had introduced his 'girlfriend' at his sister Arpita Khan's wedding, reported Mumbai Mirror. The actor was accompanied by Iulia Vantur at the grand wedding that took place in Hyderabad, making it known to everyone that he and Iulia are in love. The report also quoted a source stating that Iulia is very comfortable with Salman Khan's family, and stays a stone's throw away from his apartment in Bandra. If at all the actor was planning to marry Iulia, then things may have to be kept on hold.
