Salman Khan convicted: Films that will get affected

Salman Khan has been convicted in the 2002 hit-and-run case on May 6, 2015, for running his SUV on pavement dwellers killing one and injuring four others. The actor has been sentenced to five years imprisonment but has got an interim relief till Friday (May 8, 2015). The wait for the judgment day had given sleepless nights to not only the actor, but also his filmmakers and the industry people since a lot of money is riding on Salman. The actor, who has become one of the most bankable stars in the past few years, has a line up of some big releases. This year, Rs 200 crore and Rs 250 crore are riding on him (including production and marketing of Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo). Let's take a look at the films that will bear the brunt of the court proceedings.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan: Together, Salman Khan and Kabir Khan broke all previous records at the ticket window with their film Ek Tha Tiger. From being the fastest to earn Rs 100 crore to crossing Rs 200 crores, the producers laughed their way to the bank. Beside creating a record of the highest opening day collection ever with Rs 32.92 crore, the film also managed to break all opening weekend records. The superstar is presently committed to wrapping up Bajrangi Bhaijaan (slated to release on Eid this year). In fact, the actor, who was shooting for the film in Srinagar flew back to Mumbai for the proceedings. But with the verdict coming against Salman, the release of the film seems to be in jeopardy.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo: All eyes are set on the Diwali release, when two old friends will come together. Yes, we are talking about Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya, who have together given hit films like Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun and Hum Saath Saath Hain. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo will see Salman romancing Sonam Kapoor. The two were earlier seen together in Sonam's debut film Saawariya. With Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, we will also get to see many Salman-Sooraj moments that we have missed in recent Salman Khan films. Also, fans will get to see Salman Khan in a double role after his blockbuster Judwaa. However, it will be interesting to see if the actor will be able to complete the shooting of the film.

Shuddhi: Karan Johar's ambitious project Shuddhi, which is loosely based on the novel ‘Immortals of Meluha’, has faced several roadblocks. The film, which was initially supposed to be made with Hrithik Roshan, saw several changes until it fell in Dabangg Khan, Salman's lap. Salman, whose calendar seems to be full till 2016, is expected to have some big releases in the next two years. Shuddhi is Salman's first full-fledged film with Karan Johar. Both Salman and Karan have shown interest in working with each other in the past and with Shuddhi their wish finally comes true. But the film seems to be in troubled waters once again after Salman has been proven guilty in the hit-and-run case.

No Entry Mein Entry: Salman Khan's movies are the biggest crowd pullers, and if year 2015 doesn't witness a single movie of Salman, then it will directly affect the entire year’s box office collection. Salman is undoubtedly the biggest star today, with huge amount of money riding on him. The judgment passed against him is a big blow not only for the investors but also for his fans. The prequel to No Entry Mein Entry was a huge hit at the box-office. And what's more interesting is that Salman initially had only a cameo role in the original, but later it was converted to a big role. After the success of No Entry, the makers had decided for a sequel. But if Salman Khan faces 10-year jail imprisonment, the future of the film looks uncertain.

Sultan: Salman Khan had never worked with Yash Raj Films before Ek Tha Tiger, and it broke several records at the box-office. And after the success of the film, they have planned another project together titled Sultan. The film is said to be directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and Salman will apparently essay the role of a boxer. There were reports of Salman being wary of signing any new projects as he was unsure what the verdict will be.

Advertisements: Apart from movies, Salman Khan has number of advertisements in his kitty, and it seems that the advertising world too would be affected with this development. According to reports, Salman is paid Rs 1-2 crore for a single advertisement. Possibly, the advertisers may remove Salman from the advertisements as they did when last time Salman went to jail.
