Rekha: 7 things only the diva can carry off

Graceful: Rekha - a name that personifies grace in Bollywood, has always been an inspiration for many. The actress who turns 60 this year, is still as charismatic as she was in her heydays. She is an example of sheer elegance and has essayed powerful roles that prove her prowess as an actress. It was never a cakewalk, but Rekha maintained her balance even as she treaded the tightrope. The actress is known for her beauty and poise. The usually reticent actress, will be making an appearance on Comedy Nights With Kapil.

Enigmatic: While media and publicity has become an integral part of the celebrity lifestyle, Rekha has managed to keep the glare at bay. Even though she has a dedicated fan base, the actresses is very particular about her media outings but every time she speaks publicly, she ensures that every word is worth her while. She chooses to stay completely out of the limelight, refusing to even attend film parties. She is the ultimate diva of Bollywood, and chooses to keep herself shrouded in mystery. In one of the interviews to TOI in the past, Rekha had said, "I'm not a survivor. I live life to the fullest. But I'm a loner. I don't network or meet people. It's tacky for a person to talk about herself. For me, luxury is all about my privilege... to meet who I want, where I want, when I want."

Romance younger actors: Anil Kapoor, Akshay Kumar and Manoj Bajpai were the lucky actors who got a chance to share screen space with Rekha despite the fact that they didn't belong to the era when the actress reigned supreme. But it goes to Rekha's credit that in an industry where only the actors are allowed to romance actresses half their age, she set an example that it can also be the other way round. She romanced the younger generation with lot of confidence and never made it seem out of place. In Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, Rekha thrilled one and all with her hot avatar and charmed her fans in Zubeidaa. In an interview to TOI, Rekha had said, " I'm happy with little things that I can take care of, value, and put to use. I rarely do movies. In fact, I've got to remind myself that I'm an actor."

No role too big: Rekha, who is known to be ageless in her appeal, successfully essays the role of a mother and grandmother in films. Her beauty never stops her from taking up challenging roles in films like Koi... Mil Gaya where she essays the role of Hrithik Roshan's mother and Krrish where she graduates as Hrithik's grandmother. She has always been praised for her acting skills and her effortless work in Indian cinema. She has also been an inspiration to many Bollywood actors.

Glam it up: To add glamour to any song comes naturally to Rekha. The actress had set the temperatures soaring in the 'Kaisi Paheli Zindagani' song from Parineeta and her off-shoulder blouse made the actress look ravishing in the Om Shanti Om song. Rekha is perhaps one of those few actresses who can pull off a glamorous look and not make it appear out of place. Looking at her illustrious career graph and the way she carries hersel now, it is difficult to imagine the actress once had to take diction classes and work on her appearance to make it big in B-town.

Rekha: 7 things only the diva can carry off

Kanjeevaram sarees: Rekha can be single-handedly credited with leading the Kanjeevaram revolution. The actress, who hails from the South, brought the sarees in vogue so much so, that owning one has now become a matter of pride. Her red sarees with golden borders and shiny pallus are almost synonymous with the actress now. She also prefers to keep her long tresses untied which makes her look even more ethereal.

Bindi and jewellery: Rekha looks classy and ethnic in Kanjeevaram sarees, but what completes her look and makes it even more ethnic are the temple jewelry and bindis that she sports. Her signature bright red lipstick with minimal make-up rounds off her look that many of her contemporaries and even younger actresses try to ape.
