Bollywood’s impressive Sci-Fi films

Science Fiction or as it is popularly referred to as Sci-Fi is one of the most unexplored genres in Bollywood. While Hindi movies still have a long way to go before they can match up to Hollywood's standard of Sci-Fi, they aren't all that far behind. The Indian cinema has evolved over the past decades and more and more filmmakers are stepping out of their comfort zone and venturing into unchartered territory. While not all Sci-Fi movies have lived up to our expectations, there are a few which were well received by the audience. So let's take a look at the best Sci-Fi movies in Bollywood.

Mr India

The Anil Kapoor - Sridevi starrer, 'Mr India' is a film about a man who finds a wrist watch that makes him invisible. The movie was loaded with a bunch of naughty children and dangerous but suave villains with evil hideouts where they plotted world domination. A sequel to the movie was reportedly in talks.

Koi Mil Gaya

The Hrithik Roshan - Preity Zinta starrer 'Koi Mil Gaya' is Bollywood's answer to ET. Directed by Rakesh Roshan, the plot revolves around a mentally challenged young man, Rohit, who accidently contacts aliens while using his late father's technology and later befriends an alien left behind on earth. Not only was this movie a super hit but it also paved the way for India’s first superhero 'Krrish'.

Krrish

'Krrish' is the sequel to the super hit movie 'Koi Mil Gaya' starring Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra in the lead. The movie has Hrithik Roshan playing a double role, that of the hero and his father. After learning about his secret past, Krishna (Hrithik) leaves his guarded, simplistic world and enters the urban world where he must keep his identity hidden. He is emotionally and psychologically tested but rises to the challenges he faces with the strength and empowerment of a superhero. In one of the fight sequence towards the end of the film, the fight takes on the look of a live action motion comic - a stylistic approach that fits nicely within the context of this film.

Ra. One

'Ra.One' stars Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Arjun Rampal in the lead roles. 'Ra.One' was the most expensive, highly advanced film in terms of special effects. The villain and hero enter our infinite world of possibilities and fight-it-out based on a limited set of rules as programmed in the computer game - and the game must be played regardless of the outcomes. In the role of G.One, the added touch of giving Shah Rukh Khan steel blue eyes makes this character seem as if he walked out of a video game. In one memorable scene, South superstar Rajinikanth appears and rescues G.One (SRK) who has found himself in a fix; It is a brief cameo, but an absolutely delightful one.
