Bollywood has had a good run with films based on sports. Filmmakers are experimenting with movies featuring all kinds of sports. Priyanka Chopra is already working in the Mary Kom biopic, while John Abraham will be seen in a footballer's biopic. Apart from the most popular one, cricket, a lot of other sports are being highlighted like football and boxing. Bollywood celebrities are also very enthusiastic about sports. 1911- A self confessed football fanatic, John Abraham will be seen in a film based on the sport. John Abraham will portray the onscreen character of footballer Sibdas Bhaduri. The actor will also be producing the movie and Shoojit Sircar will be directing it. A Times of India report quoted John Abraham saying, "Football is in my DNA not by design but by passion. I am very happy to make a film on football based on such a legendary footballer. It is a very special film. It is a true story about victory, resilience and freedom."

Bend it like Beckham- Gurinder Chadha surprised critics and audiences with an impressive film on sports and relationships. Bend it like Beckham talks about the leading lady in the film - Jess being a football fanatic. Coming from an Indian family, Jess fights everything for her passion of sports. The film encouraged playing the sport of football over the much popular cricket. Bend it like Beckham was also a chick-flick in parts and continues to be a popular take on sports.

Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal- John Abraham was a part of another sports film about football. The actor played a football enthusiast in the movie. Apart from John, the movie also had Arshad Warsi in it. There was also an undercurrent of romance in the film. Bipasha Basu played the hunk's love in the movie. Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal ended on a positive note, with John Abraham getting into a self realisation mode. The film received average reviews and was moderately successful at the box office. John Abraham seemed to have played the character with a lot of enthusiasm, considering he had to play his favourite sport there.

Sikandar- A kid's obsession with sports is well depicted in the movie. The story is about how a 14 year old hero of the film, Sikandar wants to only play football. And it is the protagonist's dream to excel and become an expert in the sport. The film was directed by Piyush Jha and produced by Sudhir Mishra. However Sikandar's innocence and love for football goes away when he gets into a different and darker journey. Diverting from sports he gets involved with guns.

Hip Hip Hurray- After directing a couple of documentaries, Prakash Jha made an impressive mark in Bollywood. The ace filmmaker made one of the best sports film in Indian cinema - Hip Hip Hurray. The film was released in 1984, and was about how a football team goes on to win a tournament. The screenplay was done by Gulzar. Hip Hip Hurray was about how a computer engineer, takes up the job of a sports instructor. Like a successful teacher, he goes on to get the whole team to their victory.
