Aamir Khan’s top box-office openers

Aamir Khan is known to weave magic at the box-office. The actor has once again set the cash registers ringing with his latest sports-themed film ‘Dangal’. As the film opens on a strong note, we take a look at Aamir’s highest box-office openers.

Dhoom 3

‘Dhoom 3’, which starred Aamir alongside Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra, is his all-time highest opener. The 2013 action flick, which saw the actor playing a double role, amassed an estimated Rs 32.48 crore on day one at the box-office. The film occupies the No. 4 position of all-time highest opening day collections of Bollywood.

Dangal

Having collected an estimated sum of Rs 29.78 crore on day one at the box-office, ‘Dangal’ sits strong at the second spot in the list of Aamir’s highest openers. Armed with a good story, great execution, good reviews and positive audience feedback, the film broke the lull that had taken over the ticket counters. Demonetisation was no match for this film as it also became the second highest opener of 2016, the first being Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’.

PK

Aamir’s 2014 comedy ‘PK’, which questioned religious beliefs, ranks third on the actor’s all-time highest openers with a total collection of an estimated Rs. 25.45 crore. The film which also stared Anushka Sharma in a leading role, released across 3600 screens across India.

Talaash

‘Talaash’, which also stars Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor Khan, collected an estimated Rs 13.56 crore when it hit theatres on November 30, 2012. The film that released across 2500 screens, had about 90-95% occupancy at the multiplexes and 70-80% occupancy at the single screens across the country on Day One.

3 Idiots

Rounding up this list is Aamir’s multi-award winning film ‘3 Idiots’. The comedy-drama, which hit screens on 25 December, 2009, collected an impressive Rs 12.78 crore. It broke several records in the domestic market upon its release.
