10 years of ‘Jab We Met’: 5 pictures from the Shahid Kapoor- Kareena Kapoor Khan film that will make you nostalgic

Imtiaz Ali’s first bona fide blockbuster at the box office released in October 2007, bringing back the pairing of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor together for the fourth time. Their earlier outings as a lead pair had not performed too well, and Imtiaz was trying to carve a name for himself after the critical acclaim his first film, ‘Socha Na Tha’, had received. The trio came together to deliver a film that finds itself a favourite with the youth even today. Here’s looking at five pictures from ‘Jab We Met’ that are bound to make you nostalgic.

The almost missed train

While the depressed Aditya (Shahid Kapoor) is fixed in his seat, a rushing Geet (Kareena Kapoor) is trying to get into the departing train. After handing out every bit of her luggage, she gets into the train huffing and panting. As she recites to her fellow passengers that she has never missed a train, she shows her witty side when she smilingly tells the man holding her hand, “Ab toh mera haath chhod do ... itni bhi sundar nahin hoon main.” (You can let go of my hand now… I am not that beautiful.)

The famous Hotel Decent

While walking the streets of Ratlam, Geet and Aditya decide to rest for a few hours before resuming the journey to Geet’s home. Little do they know, Hotel Decent has quite a shady reputation. Once inside Geet insists that they stay there only for a few hours before they board their bus in the morning. This scene immortalized the name “Hotel Decent” is still commended for its smart writing.

Flush your ex

Once in the infamous Hotel Decent, Aditya opens up to Geet about the grief that he’s holding within him. He tells her that he's sad over his girlfriend marrying another man. In trademark Geet fashion, she advises that he set fire to a picture of hers and proceed to flush it. Many of us may have taken that approach to get over a breakup or an ex, and it’s one which is surely more cathartic than singing a bazillion sad songs and drowning one in misery like a certain Devdas of lore.

The daunting Dar ji

The late Dara Singh played the daunting grandfather to Kareena’s Geet in the film. The gentle giant cut an intimidating frame even as he appeared seated for most of his scenes. As Aditya brings Geet back to her home in Punjab, they are greeted by a phantom-like grandfather who grills them thoroughly. This scene with Aditya and Dar ji is bound to have you in splits and reminisce the first time you saw ‘Jab We Met’.

The circle is complete

After running away from home for her lover Anshuman, Geet met with disappointment and ends up becoming a shell of her former self. This time around it’s Aditya who nudges her to get some closure over the scorned relationship, albeit in a slightly different way. He pesters her to call him and hurl the choicest of abuses at Anshuman and thereby resulting in a warm moment between Geet and Aditya.
