Vir Das is all set to shift gears to theatre production

Comedian-actor is looking at unconventional scripts that are ‘rejected by all others’
Vir Das is all set to shift gears to theatre production
If it is not weird, wacky, stupid, offensive and edgy, then it is definitely not his kind of theatre. That’s Vir Das for you. And now, the funnyman is all set to shift gears to theatre production, “Till now I was mostly devoted towards stand-up comedy and comedians, and now I am shifting focus to producing plays.” The scripts that he is looking at are not the regular ones.

Instead, “they are the ones rejected by all other producers!”
Not just the scripts, the venues will be unconventional too. Vir has decided to look beyond the standard theatre venues, “Newer venues that can accommodate 600 to 1,000 people at a time is what I want.” The idea behind this is that, theatre in India has always been “this incredibly serious world and it needs a little shaking up”.
Vir believes that his initiative will make way for a whole new audience and a new talent pool.
About his next play he says, “The SODFather is a twisted adaptation of the legendary The Godfather. I have not decided yet, whether I will play Marlon Brando or Al Pacino, I guess it will depend on how fat I am then,” concludes Vir.
