In a recent revelation, Taapsee Pannu disclosed that prior to her casting in the 2021 Netflix thriller 'Haseen Dillruba', screenwriter Kanika Dhillon had initially considered another actor for the role of Rani Saxena. As the much-awaited sequel to this thriller, 'Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba', is set to be released on August 9, Taapsee’s revelation has garnered significant attention from fans.

Taapsee shared with Indian Express that she first learned about the concept for 'Haseen Dillruba' from screenwriter Kanika Dhillon. Pannu expressed her interest in the project, but by the time she returned from filming another project, she discovered that Dhillon had already pitched the story to another actor, with plans to move forward. Although Pannu did not name the actor, it has been widely reported that Kriti Sanon was the initial choice for the role.

The actress further added that a few months later, Kanika Dhillon contacted her again for a script narration, without further questions. Pannu was immediately drawn to the script and enthusiastically agreed to the role, feeling it was destined for her. She noted that being cast in a pulpy romantic thriller was a new experience for both herself and the filmmakers, as it was a genre no one had previously associated with her.

According to the actress, she didn’t initially seem like the ideal choice for the role in the film. Despite the role's grey areas, where she excels, she was excited by the challenge. She felt that her unconventional casting would bring a unique approach to the role, offering a fresh perspective compared to someone more traditionally suited for the part. Pannu viewed this as a valuable opportunity to test her abilities and explore new facets of her acting potential.

She credited the significant attention and reactions that 'Haseen Dillruba' received—both positive and negative—for paving the way for the sequel. Pannu noted that the film's impact, which exceeded critical reviews and resonated strongly with audiences, was a key factor in the decision to create a sequel. She highlighted that the film’s widespread discussion was crucial in generating interest for part two.

Directed by Jayprad Desai, 'Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba' also features Vikrant Massey and Sunny Kaushal in key roles.
