Suhana Khan body shamed, as are Nusrat Jahan and Swastika Mukherjee

Suhana Khan is no stranger to being trolled. If not for simply being Shah Rukh Khan's daughter, she has been routinely body shamed and heckled for her skin stone and facial features. Suhana finds company in the likes of Nysa, Kajol and Ajay Devgn's daughter, who has kept herself away from the paparazzi and disabled comments on her private accounts that had drawn their share of body shamers and bullies. Not just star kids, women in showbiz, irrespective of their professional acumen and achievements, have been a favourite target for body shamers. While the trend may have started with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's postpartum weight gain, there has been no let up in the bullying and heckling that women have had to face for looking the way they are. For every Arjun Kapoor who is trolled for his body, there are at least five other women who are subjected to this form of online abuse. From Vidya Balan, who had to deal with unsolicited questions about her weight gain, to Kareena Kapoor Khan, whose no-make up look often invites sharp attacks -- social media continues to remain a playground for toxic body shamers. Closer home, it's MP-actress Nusrat Jahan and Swastika Mukherjee who are subjects of constant criticism owing to her frames.

2/7

Nusrat Jahan

Actress- MP Nusrat Jahan has been receiving flak for being skinny for quite some time now. Only recently, Nusrat put up a picture of herself at the airport as she left for London to shoot for her next film. Netizens took next to no time to slam her for looking ‘too thin’. While some dubbed her ‘sick’, others compared her with pencils and insinuated she’s dowdy.Nusrat, however, has always maintained that her mantra is to ignore the negativity. We cannot agree more.

3/7

Vidya Balan

It all started with her fashion choices that according the fashion police, didn’t quite seem stylish. Comments on her questionable sartorial choices soon morphed into ‘bigger problems’ like weight issues. Unsolicited style advice made the rounds along with generous amounts of fat shaming. Vidya has also, every now and then, addressed the vicious trolling in a dignified manner.

4/7

Mouni Roy

One of the most popular faces from television who’s now making headways in Bollywood has been receiving flak for her looks since years. Netizens have often slammed her for not being able to accept her natural beauty. Not only has she been dubbed ‘plastic’ but derogatory comparisons with Rakhi Sawant and Michael Jackson have plagued her otherwise steady showbiz career. Mouni had once taken a dig at trolls by captioning an image, “Hopelessly flawed (sic).”

5/7

Swastika Mukherjee

The seasoned actress knows how to take the hardships in her stride. Swastika Mukherjee has always retorted with a befitting reply to those who trolled her when it comes to her eclectic style and voluptuous body. On International Women's day 2019, the actress had made her point clear, once and for all. She put up a picture for which she drew flak and captioned it: I had posted this picture on Instagram and all I heard was ‘WHY DO YOU HAVE SAGGY BOOBS?!’ Why are men always commenting on women’s saggy boobs ?? Breast feed a child for years and then talk fuckers. I am proud of my saggy boobs. I am a proud mother. I didn’t use pumps (sic). Attagirl!

6/7

Nysa Devgn

Kajol and Ajay Devgn’s daughter, Nysa, routinely gets dirt thrown at her by nasty trolls. From commenting on her skin colour to her beauty that seems subpar to self-proclaimed judges in the virtual world, Nysa has been on the receiving end of merciless hate over years. Every time Nysa’s pictures surface on social media, comments such as “she’s painted with foundation 10 shades lighter than her original skin tone” and “she looks so basic” start doing the rounds. Her pictures are also dissected to infer whether or not the teenager is taking shots for skin lightening or has gone under to knife to reshape her facial features.
