Rewind: Nostalgic Bollywood classics that defined the 90s

In the kaleidoscope of Bollywood's bygone era, the 90s stands as a cherished chapter, especially for those who grew up immersed in the magic of Hindi cinema. The cinematic landscape of that decade was adorned with timeless gems that continue to evoke waves of nostalgia among the 90s kids. From the enchanting love saga of 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' to the unforgettable laughter-fest of 'Andaz Apna Apna,' these movies weren't just a form of entertainment; they were threads woven into the fabric of our growing-up years.

'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge'

The first thing that comes to mind when you recall the movie 'Diwale Dulhania Le Jayenge,' is the voice of Lata Mangeshkar in songs - 'Mere Khwabon Mein,'' Ho Gaya Hai Tujhko To Pyar Sajna' and more. Feeling nostalgic already? This is just the beginning. How about Amrish Puri's famous dialogue - "Jaa Simran jaa, jee le apni zindagi" or Shah Rukh Khan's "Raj agar ye tujse pyar krti hai to ye tujhe palat kr dekhegi, palat, palat." The love story of Raj and Simran was the OG love story for a 90s kid. Every girl dreamt that her Raj (played by Shah Rukh Khan) would cross countries for her, they would have a dreamy sequence in the sunflower fields, and after all the ups and downs, they would have their happily ever after.

'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'

The 'cool' necklace of Rahul, the friendship bands, the basketball field, Mrs. Briganza, the neglected tomboy Anjali, the special girl on the campus Tina - there are endless scenes and characters that flash right in front of the eyes when you name the movie 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.' This 1998 released movie, that gave us dialogues like "Pyar dosti hai," "ek ladke ka sir sirf teen aurton ke samne jhukta hai," "tussi jaa rhe ho tussi na jao," "kuch kuch hota hai Rahul tum nahi samjhoge," is all things love. From college romance to friendship to Kajol's ultimate glow-up, to a daughter trying to be a matchmaker for her father, everything about this movie left an imprint. No wonder that even decades later, this Karan Johar directorial is remembered with so much warmth.

4/6

'Baazigar'

The aforementioned two movies showed the lover boy image of Shah Rukh Khan. However, a 90s film that changed the image of Shah Rukh Khan for many and showed him in a completely different light was 'Baazigar.' Released in 1993, this was a suspense thriller that revolved around revenge. It is one of Abbas-Mustaan's best, where the lead character carries a vendetta against the man who did wrong by his family. He first charms and kills the elder daughter of his enemy and then moves ahead to destroy the rest of the family by getting close to the younger daughter. Be it the narrative, the plot twists, or the music of the movie, everything about this film had the potential to leave a lasting impact.

'Hum Aapke Hain Koun'

Tell us honestly, were you also one of those who named their dog 'Tuffy' after the movie 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun'? Sooraj Barjatiya gave us unbeatable family and love goals with his 1994 released movie. Renuka Shahane was the perfect 'bahu,' Monish Bahl was the idol husband, while Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan were the cutest and most mischievous siblings. This movie gave us antakshri nights, passing the parcel game, family cricket and whatnot. Not just this, it was the ultimate fashion guide in the 90s. Don't you remember Madhuri Dixit's green attire from the song 'Joote De Do Paise Le Lo,' or the purple lehenga from 'Didi Tera Dewar Deewana'? It would not be wrong to say that if you haven't watched this movie, you haven't done your 90s right.

6/6

'Andaz Apna Apna'

"Teja main hu, mark yaha hai," this dialogue is more than enough for you to recall the entire movie 'Andaz Apna Apna.' The story of Amar-Prem (Aamir Khan and Salman Khan) gives you a laughter attack even by the mere mention. Released in 1994, it is a classic Rajkumar Santoshi film that showed two middle-class boys competing to win over a millionaire's daughter. They try 'sam-dam-dand-bhedh,' but amid all this, they run into a gangster Teja who turns their lives upside down. We were in a tough spot to choose the final film for this list but then recalling songs like 'Do Mastane,' 'Ye Raat Aur Ye Doori,' and 'Ello Ello,' made the choice a bit easier.
