Priyanka Chopra Jonas to Taapsee Pannu: Celebs who spoke about getting replaced in films

There are times when Bollywood actors get replaced in films. Many actors, in the past, have spoken openly about getting replaced in the films for some of the most unusual reasons. Recently in an interview with Filmfare, Taapsee Pannu opened up about getting replaced because the hero’s wife didn’t want her in the film. From Priyanka Chopra Jonas to Shraddha Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, here’s looking at the other celebs who have experienced similar situations, but didn't mope around and let it stop them:

Kriti Sanon

Kriti made her debut in Bollywood with ‘Heropanti’ and since then there’s no looking back for her. She has been a part of some amazing projects and she has always managed to surprise her audience with her performances. But in an interview with an entertainment portal, Kriti revealed she was replaced with a star kid. Talking about how nepotism affected her career, she said that if she had been from a film family, she would not have to reach out to the directors. She also said that she doesn’t know the real reason behind a star kid replacing her in a film.

Shraddha Kapoor

Shraddha, who is one of the most loved actresses in the industry, was all set to play the role of Saina Nehwal in her biopic. But due to the date issues, she was replaced by Parineeti Chopra. In an interview, Shraddha was asked about getting replaced in the film. She said that whatever is meant to come to one person comes to him/her, and whatever is not meant to be yours will not be yours. She further added that if she has been cast in a particular film and that is meant to be for her then there’s something that she will bring to the table that will add value to those films.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas

Priyanka is surely ruling the world today but even she was replaced in films and also faced gender disparity. During an interview, PeeCee revealed she has been replaced twice. She further said that she got to know from her co-actor once that she was replaced and the other time she read it in the newspaper. The actress added that she went to her father and cried. She even went on to say that she has faced situations where she was thrown out of films because someone else was recommended. But calling it a learning experience, she said that she is strong because her parents raised her to be a strong woman.

Taapsee Pannu

Taapsee is one of the busiest actresses in Bollywood today. She is currently on a roll with her back to back projects. She has even completed shooting for ‘Rashmi Rocket’ amid the new normal. But before enjoying the glorious run in the industry, there was a time when she used to get replaced with other actors. In the past, Taapsee has spoken about the same in her interviews. Recently, speaking to Filmfare, Taapsee revealed she was once replaced because the hero’s wife didn’t want her in the film. She said, “I faced some really weird things in the beginning like she isn’t pretty enough. I’ve been replaced because the hero’s wife didn’t want me to be part of the film. I was dubbing for one of my films and I was told that the hero didn’t like my dialogue so I should change it. When I refused to change it, they got a dubbing artiste to do it behind my back. There was a time when I was told the hero’s previous film didn’t work, so you slash your price because we need to control the budget. There was some hero who wanted my introduction scene changed because he felt it would overpower his introduction scene. These are the things that have happened in front of me, I don’t know what’s happened behind my back.”

Surveen Chawla

Surveen, who was seen in ‘Hate Story 2’, once revealed that she was replaced with a star kid at a time when she was making her transition from TV to films. She said that she was not scared even though she had left the TV at the peak of her career but in the middle of the transition, when she was stepping up, she was thrown back down.

Divya Dutta

Divya, who has been winning the hearts of the audience with her flawless performances, has also faced favouritism in the industry. In an interview with ETimes, Divya spoke about getting replaced in many films. She said, “It used to feel like a huge sense of loss, coming and being rejected or being told on the phone that someone else has been roped in. I've been dropped out of many movies at the last minute so that hurts because you feel sheer helplessness because you know how good you could've been in that role. But what I noticed was that I have a very strong family. My mother used to ask 'Why are you upset?' then I would say, mom, 'I've been thrown out of the film, why? I don't know.' So she says 'Does that stop your life? Life never stops and tomorrow's another day.' In fact, it's strange that the people, who have dropped me, I have worked with them a few years later with better roles.”
